View Full Version : A choice of 2 Wides

Due to personal reasons, I would like to request honest appraisals of two lenses in a Vs. kind of scenario. The lenses are:
Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5 - 4.5
vs.
Nikon DX AF Fisheye-Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G ED
I can understand the physical attributes i.e their respective angles of coverage etc but which, given the choice it would actually work with RED, would be the better choice at the wide end? and why?
Cheers,
Mark.

The Nikon is a fisheye and the Canon is rectilinear.
You probably can "de-fisheye" the Nikon in post, but this may take quite a bit of render time in 4k and be a pain.

www.mattuhry.com Thanks Matt,
I'm probably gonna be looking at shooting 1080P to begin with and I also understand the whole requirement for the rendering of footage realized by the Nikon. I was just wondering if both can be used and the considerations for said usage.
Cheers,
Mark.

Do underwater guys care about distortion much? It seems pretty obvious to me that you'd be better off with the canon 10-22 unless there is some consideration I'm not aware of.
I don't know that much about filming under water but I shot this mermaid once on a Foo Fighters music video...

Sure, come on out but make it quick, I'll be leaving here at the end of September....back to the real World!! 16 years spent bumming around shooting underwater and now it's time to get a 'real job'. Starting with Nat Geo in October, signed and sealed deal as an independent contractor for a probationary year and then if all is good a permanent position based from DC.. Happy with that.
Cheers,
Mark.
