I have the budget for a RED One, or a Scarlet, even though financial outlay at this time is crucial. I'm looking for EXPERT advise on which camera is better for my purposes.
We do mainly television wildlife documentaries. We need the capabilities of time-lapse and high speed, and we do a lot of macro. The 350fps in the 2K mode of the Epic is very impressive, but it may be that the Epic is way beyond our budget.
We will most likely be shooting most of our footage in 2K or 2/3" so it can be used for HD-TV, and since some of our specialty lenses are only capable of filling that size frame.
Since these cameras are modular we are trying to get a good idea of a starting point to build the camera that will best suite our needs.
Is the Epic WAY more expensive than the RED One? Will the Scarlet meet our needs for television? Would the RED One be overkill? Etc, etc??
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

The R1 won't be in the roster for much longer, Epic and Scarlet are it's replacements. The R1 is a great midway between Epic and Scarlet features, but it won't be on the roster too much longer.

If you need a good varispeed function, I recommend the epic. An R1 will do great at 2k but it's not modular, all the great toys red is making from now on won't (fully) work wit h the R1 (Ex. Redmote which would be ideal of start/stopping your red from recording wildlife)

If your going to enter the game now you should just wait, an R1 is still gonna cost you $38K + in the end.

Thanks very much Casey.
What it ultimately comes down to is cost. We shoot principally for television, and if the Scarlet will give us that, then I'll wait for it. The fact that the Scarlet can take still lenses, like Nikon, and utilize the auto-focus function is VERY appealing to us.
Everything in RED's "Store" is for the RED One. If they've got a store for Scarlet or Epic, I sure can't find it on their website.
Take care.

They'll have the new stuff in store probably in 6-8 months, they just announced all the new models, the unfortunate delays and more.

Scarlet is the way to go for TV, I recommend a 2/3 inch scarlet because that will give you the focal lengths TV is more used to with ENG lenses. I think the new ones should be able to use B4 lenses with the standard mount. Don't quote me on that though.
