I was curious if anyone here has used a panavised red before? I was at pana the other week and they said they had 2 of them (didn't talk to highly of red though) and I wanted to see if anyone had a pic of the camera they could post to see how much they modded it.

Other than sticking a PV mount on it, and pimping it out with ET add ons and such, I don't think there much else they could mod.

I'd like to see this too.

I've seen one in the wild. Jamie pretty much nailed it. It's a RED with a PV mount and a ton of ET accessories, as well as a bracket which allows the 5/8" PV rod standard to be used. I don't have any pictures, unfortunately.

I'm suprised they even exist, I expect Panavision and Red arn't in the same circle of friends.

Our local panavision has red 58X...

What's your local panavidion that has the 58x? The one near me is woodland hills pana. Id love to do a camera test with it over there.

Panavision is likely developing a camera of their own. I understand it to be a bayer pattern sensor, powered by their own color science. Source: Rumors, swathed in a blanket of enigmas, wrapped in a riddle. Unverified.

I had one of the first Panavision mounts on my Red for a feature film shoot in China. We had 2 "Panavised" Red cameras. Really the only difference was the mount.

The mount in question was sent to Panavision a while back. Not sure if those mounts are on the Panavised cameras you're asking about. At CineGear someone at ET confirmed that they had designed and machined those particular mounts.

I'm sure they're developing there own camera too. I don't know about bayer pattern, the guy I was speaking with didn't seem too fond of the bayer pattern.

The way he explained it to me was the red's 4K isn't really 4K because of the bayer pattern and the way red calculates it's 4k based on pixels, it's fake 4K essentially. He then explained how the sensor on the genesis works and that if you go by the way red fudges it's resolution the genesis would be a 6K camera.

I then asked why the genesis can't be modified to record at higher bit rates and resolution. He didn't really have an answer for that.

Anyway, it doesn't matter who's right or if the numbers are fudged, fact is RED has incredible sharpness at 4K resolution, genesis can't even record at that rez.

Thanks for the pic Justin! I thought they would modify it even more, maybe even attached a custom piece under the lens mount for there custom follow focus. It works though, thats what matters

Panavision had quite a few of the very early Red Ones.
They just chose not to rent them until some of the problems had been sorted.

In theory Genesis could be modified to shoot 4K as the sensor is capable of it, however this will never happen. For example one of the hurdles would be a recording system.

Panavision are working on a "Genesis II" type camera.
They are building their own sensor.
It has on-sensor HDR and can do 120 fps.

Yes, I'd seen that one some time ago. I understand the plot has thickened somewhat. I wish they'd give us a peek.
