View Full Version : Transcoding to eSata at only 15-18MB/sec ?

I'm currently transcoding 4K 16:9 23.98 R3Ds to ProresHQ1080 23.98 and noticed via activity monitor I'm getting an average of approx 15MB/sec read and write via eSata. Just wanted to check if this seems normal.
I'm reading R3Ds and Writing ProRes to the same Lacie D2Quadra drive (I realize this isn't ideal but that's what I've been supplied by production).
Hardware is Nehalem MacPro 2.26 / 16GB Ram / RocketRaid eSATA Mac / Snow Leopard.
Does anyone else think these numbers should be faster?
Thanks for any comments/help.
Cheers,

Reading and writing to the same drive/bus is not the ideal speed situation for transcoding processes.

Brian, try copying a couple of the R3D files to your tower and then test the speed to the ESata drive. I'd be curious to know the difference.

You said you were transcoding so aren't you actually looking at the speed you are rendering instead of the copying speed?
