A couple of users on this forum have mentioned the fact some Super 16mm film lenses may not "resolve" the 3K sensor of the 2/3" Scarlet. Can anyone explain or verify if this? I think that the use of Super 16mm lenses without crop will become very popular with Scarlet users. There are a lot of these Super 16 lenses out there from Zeiss, Cooke and Angeneiux and we should be able to rent them for cheap considering that Super 16 is on the way out. Having high quality lenses will be essential and still and s35 lenses will be out due to the massive crop. Is this a matter of dated optics?

The miniprimes are a good alternative but that still leaves us without a quality PL mount zoom lens for the Scarlet 2/3, hence turning to Super16 zoom lens.

The very latest S16 lens from Zeiss & Cooke will out resolve 3k, older lenses would need to be tested on a lens by lens basis.

And good s16 lenses are not cheap. The prices for cemeras maybe falling but a set of s16 zeiss super speeds are still pricy.

That is the reason I never bought any S16 equipment, 35mm cameras & lenses were way cheaper! OK RED pushed up the prices of 35mm film lenses!

I am not saying that they will be cheap to buy but possibly cheaper to rent due to a decreased demand since the popularity of Super 16 is lessening. These are cine optics from top notch producers so they will always be more pricy than still lenses.

i am talking specifically about Zeiss and Cooke optics from rental houses like Abel Cine Tech, places that rent out the latest in s16 lenses.

Second, do you think that the popularity of the Scarlet 2/3 will result in the production of more super 16 or RED specific lenses from these companies?

I don't think the demand of shooting super 16 is going down that much. A lot of Film students still shoot super 16 for their thesis's. I know the Film School I went to if anyone was shooting film for their thesis, renting the camera and lenses from the school was not a good option.
