I Shot a test for National Geographic using their Astroscope.
My first impression was amazement at the sensitivity in close to no light situations at night using only star and moonlight, you can actually see something. HOWEVER the image is very grainy! If there is any way to get some infrared light on the subject then my opinion is that the Sony MC1 or A1U give much better results with the night shot function, not to mention the hugh difference in cost. the image is much sharper with way less noise. But if there is absolutely no way to add some IR light (subject too far away etc. then the Astro is the only way to go.

my suspicion, by the way, is that the very grainy / noisy quality of such images is due to the fact that there are so few photons per pixel coming in. Or in other words, the problem is really basic physics, with only starlight illumination you cannot hope to do much better than that.
