Image Stabilization, hmmm... I don't think so.
Virtual Reality? Yes, it does have that. When you look through the viewfinder you'll see a virtual representation of reality.

OK, it was late and I was a little tipsy. But I still don't know what he meant by VR.

Floris,
VR is Nikon's Vibration Reduction System, very similar to Canon's Image Stabilization (IS) technology.

Actually, RED and VR (Virtual Reality) is possible -- that's what I'm setting up to do -- www.SoutheasternStudios.com.

Ah, ok. My first camcorder, a Sony Hi8 from 1993 did have an optical image stabilizer built in too. Quite advanced technique back then. The result was not bad, though a tripod looked better.

If you want to use a lens designed for 2/3" HD cameras, there are stabilizers out there. For example the Canon DIGI SUPER 100 xs AF http://www.usa.canon.com/industrial_bctv/p_field_DIGISUPER100_93BIEDAF_spec.shtml

this is a 100x zoom "box lens", it weighs 60 pounds, no idea how much it costs.

Quote: In addition to their auto-focus capabilities, Canon’s new DIGISUPER 100AF and DIGISUPER 86AF long-field HD zoom lenses feature Canon’s highly acclaimed built-in Optical Image Stabilizer, or “Shift-IS” system, to help create rock-solid images even at telephoto distances.

Canon IS is endeed a nice feature to have. I've worked with one of these on a documentary during 1 year (XL-H1). As I was not a Canon guy, I had to learn to work with. Very helpful in long shot but alos in short focal use. You'll never imagine to do these kind of shots without a tripod. It's also another esthetic.

Thoug, I also remember this feature, was it on Sony?... It looked like a monster.

See you.
