Hi Guys,
Sorry if this has been covered in a previous thread. Living in Palau and today for whatever reason the connections are super slow. Takes over a full minute for each new link to load!

I'm just wondering how much footage the CF cards will hold? So what would the capacity be, in all permutations of 4k, 2k and 1080P with both a 4GB and 8GB card? What could we then hope to realize with 16GB cards?

Again, sorry if this has been covered before.

Cheers,
Mark.

Approximately 27.5 Mbytes/sec (220 Mbit/sec) had been mentioned in the past but I don't think anyone has set a definitive number on this recently. Apparently it is scene-dependent- it is my understanding that redcode raw is now variable bitrate, so high-detail scenes take more space than low-detail. As jbeale says, it seems Redcode is now VRB, which is good news in my books - but if you assume (there's that word again!) an average bitrate of 27MB/s then you get approximately 5 mins of 4k Redcode RAW on an 8GB CF card (obviously 2.5 mins on a 4GB), and a whopping 20 mins of 2k Redcode RAW (@ ~7MB/s average). As far as I understand it 1080 RGB has been dropped, at least for the near future, but you could assume a rate of roughly 3/4 4k RAW if you wanted to guestimate, which would give you about 6m40s on an 8GB card (it would actaully be a little higher than that, as 1080 is lower resolution [slightly] that 2k, but were all guessing here, so hey - who cares?!)...

Was 1080P confirmed as dropped? Things seem to happen very quick of late. Thanks for the info guys.

Mark.

For what it's worth, I don't think we should rely on the Wikipedia entry for accurate information. Almost everything in the article has been culled from past announcements -- many of them now long obsolete -- or from these forums.

Yep, I was also gonna mention the Wiki link. A lot of new info to be had here on the board which contradicts that of the Wiki entry. One of the problems I guess, oops there's that word again, with such a project under constant change such as this is that new news doesn't stay that way very long.

Cheers,
Mark.

"Was 1080P confirmed as dropped"

NO , it will not be enabled on the 1st releases ... sometime down the line you'll be able to enable it thru flashing the camera - i believe there will be 2 different set up ( thru flashing teh camera ) ... 1 will be stricky RAW .. the other will be 4k raw , 2k raw and 1080p & not sure about 720p ??? each will have different frame rates & scaling /window

Thanks for clearing that up donatello.
