Hello everyone.
This RED seems really like a quality of a 35mm film is coming down to earth in the hands of the normal people with normal depth of wallets.
But is this thing real? It seems on a first sight to be a little too good that it can be true just like that.
This is what I mean.
What else hardware/software(in means of a depth of wallets) a man needs to have so he can manage those ''practical'' 4k.
All those mountains of data, and pull out complete capacity to the screen that this RED bazooka offers.

I am seriously thinking to make a reservation for a RED,
but I do not want to jump into a trapp blinded by its picture quality in those 4K.
So I would like if you can tell me what else do I need to have in order to use the full capacity of a RED.
If I am buying RED i do not want to be statisfeyed with 2K and lower resolution when it offers 4k.
It is so obvius that I can't edit fotage on a PC when the data information is so huge.
What hard drives do I need to have.
What is complete buget(roughly) beside RED ONE it self, to deliver movies to the big screen.

Thanks for the oportunity to ask these cuestions.

Yes it's real. And also, you don't need a super computer for it. But you do need a high performance computer. If you can spend about $7,000 on a computer (quite possibly less) you could edit 4K. 2K would be much easier, but it's not future proof. Still it's more future proof than Superman Returns, Scary Movie 4, Apocolypto, Revenge of the Sith, Attack of the Clones and all the other HD movies.

Depending on your shooting style and format, you can spend between 22k and 60k+ for a basic camera kit, and edit on most any NLE (using REDCine software to convert to your favorite codec).

As for making a reservation, unfortunately you'll have to wait for a while. The second-chance reservation period just closed. In the meantime, get a larger imaging sensor in your visa to increase your depth of wallet.

As lakeview indicated, you cannot place a reservation anymore. They have closed. Normal selling will open once the product ships.

As with all other high-end camera's the price for the camera gets you a basic system. This (mostly) does not include recording options, monitoring solutions, power equipment or lenses. This things you buy, re-use from other camera's (where possible) or rent.

It largely depends on what you want, have and need how much extra you need to spend. A recording option is the only thing you really need to get, the rest you could already own or possibly rent.

The camera does not restrict you to shooting in 4K. It can also shoot 2K or 1920 x 1080 & 1280 x 720. Obviously working in 2K and especially 4K will require a different post production workflow & system(s) than the regular HD standards.

If that's too much to handle shoot at HD or 2K and gradually work your way up. That's the neat thing. You don't have to shoot in 4K, but when the time comes you need to / want to you can without getting a different camera!
