With the release of the first Red Ones on Friday, will RedCine be released to the World as well or will RedCine only be available in your bundle as you receive your camera?

Jim said something about releasing REDCine and giving us some little redcode clips to play with.
I'm hoping that means full version of REDCine released along with some 4k REDCode.
We'll see in a couple of days.
Gibby where's that Notebook of quotes to back me up? ;)

I don't see any more relevant quotes than these:
Redcine is included with the camera (JJ, 1-12-2007)

REDCINE will be ready in Beta form [when cameras ship] (JJ, 8-24-2007)

If Jim ever said that they were releasing Redcine outside of red camera owners, I must have missed it.

As you have hinted at, You'd be smart to wait as long as you can (or at least until they announce an upgraded mac pro). My guess, new mac pro and new graphics options coming before the end of the year (it should also have 45nm penryn xeons in it too).

Thanks that was actually the post I was referring to.
REDCINE will be ready in Beta form, plus there will be RED Alert!, RED Quick and some footage posted so everyone can try some samples.

Unless "everyone" means camera purchasers I assume that means we'll be getting our hands on it.
Workflow is what sells the RED camera but the public is going to need to be sold on the workflow so I fully expect something for everybody.

I'd love to be able to run Redcine also, and I don't disagree about the workflow. But I can see where they might not immediately make it public- for now it doesn't look like they have any shortage of customers!

Redcine is going to be an excellent program and I'm waiting for it's debut to the world. Hopefully, all of the camera owners will get used to the workflow of the program before their cameras ship. Unfortunately, reservations #1-25 will be learning the same time we do...Although it seems that most of those reservations were made by people who have worked with the camera the past year and a half.

Seems like "Red Quick" may be the Red Quicktime codec which would allow us to view Red footage without Redcine? Im curious how FinalCut or any QT app deals with the conversion settings? It would rock if Apple eventually made that conversion a standard part of quicktime for Red or any Future RAW based video formats. Basically its what Redcine would do but potentially those settings could be live in something like FCP.

We are rebuilding REDCINE and I am not sure it will be done for Friday. Fear not... RED Alert! is here to save the day. RED Alert! is a mini-app that does what needs to be done. We do expect REDCINE to be done very soon.
And RED Quick is moving from a mini-app directly into the camera. It wraps .r3d files (our REDCODE RAW format) in a Quicktime wrapper so they can be played and ingested into FCP.

I just saw that RED Alert! tag on the RED main page... I was beginning to wonder what it was!
So it's a basic "developing" and transcoding tool, I take it?

I love the extension of RED files! I think I might just search for .r3d's on my computer just for the fun of it...hot stuff!
