Hello All!

This is simply a gathering interest thread, and although I've talked a bit with local politicians, this is an initial "survey" to see if I should contact people with the power to get this ball rolling.

I live in Oakbank, Manitoba, located about 15 minutes east of Winnipeg. The municipality has announced the construction of a new multi-million dollar recreation complex, which leaves the current hockey rink up for sale once the new complex is constructed.

On the weekends, I drive the Zamboni (ya, ya make your jokes), and have thought it would be interesting to see if the space could be converted into a modestly-sized sound stage.

The space is your standard sized rink, with onother 12 feet on one side for stands, just to give you an idea for the floorspace. I dont know the exact height of the ceiling, but easily heigh enough to intall a catwalk grid and still have lots of headroom.

Other intersting points that are positive:
-North wall has a side-sliding door large enough to back a 44ft standard trailer into.
-Unfinished rink walls, allowing acoustics to be installed easily.
-Strong flat floor
-3phase power at a couple places.
-Lots of surrounding land that could be used for backlot, storage or sold for revenue.

So basically, im just asking if anyone could see themselves using a converted space, or a space that large (or small) if rented for a resonable price.

I would be interested in that, price dependent of course, for several projects.

Im looking into see if Oakbank is eligible for the Rural Tax Credit. If it is, that is a great incentive to going forwards with this project.

Portage & Main is less than 35KM from Oakbank so I'm thinking no, which is too bad as this could be a good idea.

However, there are other facilities producers and PM's are familiar with now...it really means doing homework along with providing a good enough rate to justify the drive.
