Ran into a problem with downloading footage to a harddrive. We forgot on one harddrive download to drag the digital mag profiles. We will run into problems? We were still able to see the footage in quicktime.

Are you using a backup utility that checksums the data upon completion of the transfer or are you just dragging and dropping your files from one drive to another?

We have been dragging and dropping. I have looked at the footage (from the batch where the 2 mag profiles were not put in) with no problems in red alert, fcp or viewing on quicktime.

The 2 .profile files are not really THAT important. Just the main folder.
Also look into AASync as a nice little free copy + checksum utility.

You are playing russian roulette with your footage. You need to start employing a copy utility that actually verifies the integrity of the data you are copying. 3CP and R3D Data Manager are a couple options you have.
While the mag profiles really aren't that important, this practice of drag and drop is not really acceptable fimmaking workflow unless you like doing reshoots.
I'm not saying this to be mean, I'm just trying to point out that procedures do exist for insuring data integrity and you are not following any of them. Sooner or later it's going to be more than a couple magazine profiles that go missing (or corrupted).
Others should feel free to chime in on what tools they use to insure data integrity, some of which are free (so there's really no excuse for not using one).

What if you don't have a computer to back up too? I usually work in places where we can't bring computers. Usually I just use new cards, but the RED CF cards will be too expensive to have more than a few. Has anyone used any CF compatible field back up devices? I know you won't be able to preview the footage, that's okay, I can remember the film days. I was thinking one of the ones by Epson.

I have a couple of Nexto units I'm still trialling; seem to be working great so far.

Cail,
Which models are you testing out, they look promising. How are the batteries doing?

It's the one thing I have left to test - the only jobs I can test them on are 2 or 3 card gigs; waiting to get some free time to really hammer the battery.
Bought the cheapest one, the 2700 I think?

If it is possible to back up reddrive/ram using nexto DI? Did anybody test it in such way?

It's possible using the USB OTG port, but you'd need a way to power the RED DRIVE.
