Hi Kwan,

The Vario Kit consists of:
1) Vario 4 - 400. Vest & Support Bar (Complete Unit).
1) Vario 4 - 200SB. Support Bar Only.

The reason you would purchase the Vario Kit is to cover all bases, i.e., weights from 9 lb - 40 lb.

However, the standard Vario 4 (200 or 400) has a List price of $4100 with a Group Buy price of $3250.

Hope this helps clear it up.

The Vario Kit is designed for end-users that currently do not own an EasyRig.

If you're an existing EasyRig owner, you should consider purchasing ONLY the Vario support Bar (Details on Second Post). This will incorporate well with your existing EasyRig Vest.

Would you happen to have a link or sizing information on those vests? I haven't been able to figure out what size I need.

The Standard Vest is mostly a one-size-fits-all. However, there's always an exception to the rule; otherwise, there would be no rule.

The Vest is measured by the Hip Belt Size. They are:

Small: 33 in. [84 cm]
Medium: 35.5 in. [90 cm]
Large: 47 in. [120 cm]

The Small Vest is designed for a petite person, i.e., female. Medium Vest for the masses. And the Large Vest for above average size.

There has been a lot of interest. And, there are couple orders in the works. We believe the total numbers will be just around 15.

Either way, you can order now, and get the special pricing. We won't make you wait until the 15th person has ordered.

The Vario was introduced late last year. We delayed, a little, in introducing it because we were evaluating the unit.

We weren't planning on a Group Buy offer, but, in the recent weeks, we've received an influx of requests. Hence, the offer.

Please note, you can add a Vario Support Bar to your existing Cinema Vest.

Is there any kind of extension for the bar? I'm tall in the saddle and wish I had another few inches top side. The bar is as high as it goes in the vest.

There should be a couple of inches of clearance.

You mentioned the "bar is as high as it goes in the vest". This would be my first recommendation. Secondly, I would make sure the Vest is sitting properly (adjusted) on your body. Lastly, you can make an adjustment where both bars meet, i.e., inside the rubber piece.

Nevertheless, I would like to go over the scenarios. PM me your number and I can give you a call. Or, you can call me at: 866.866.1699 (within US) or 1.661.295.333.

Sitting here with my Easyrig t-shirt, wearing my Easyrig hat, all feeling tight with my Easyrig belt, Easyrig well displayed on the floor next to my Easyrig bag as I'm about to watch my Easyrig DVD and take notes with my Easyrig pen... All this savouring of course that fresh minty Easyrig candy!

Too bad I ain't got any Easyrig popcorn and Easyrig beer!

Thanks for the ton of freebies guys, that's hysterical!

Oh and the big harnest thing with the sort of hook with a cable is pretty nice too!... :cheers2:

Me too. It was a bummer that the Vario was announced not too long after I had already bought into the Cinema 3 group buy. I would think that there would be a better upgrade path for those who bought a Cinema 3 just prior to the announcement of the Vario (within a certain timeframe window).

Hi Mike,

We extended the offer 'till March 1st. Unfortunately, the promo has expired.

However, please note we will be running a special during NAB for our entire product line (except the compact primes). Details to follow.

Hi Paul,

Believe it or not, we had ZERO clue the Vario was going to be introduced when we announced the Cinema 3 Group Buy.

We didn't get our hands on a Vario until late '09. As the US distributors, we had to evaluate the unit and test it before bringing it to market. That didn't happen until the very end of '09.

The margins for the Cinema 3 GP were minimal; which makes an upgrade path slightly tough. I'll run the numbers tomorrow and I'll see what we can do for you.

A bunch of Easyrig Vario 4's went out last Spring in the group buy. I'd love to get any feedback/experience any of you might have had with these. Are they worth the extra money over the Cinema 3's?

Do you agree that the Vario 4 200 model be more suitable for Epic (8-22 lbs)?

Yousuf Abbasi
10-14-2010, 05:17 PM
I doubt Epic will be that lightweight. Compact, yes. Not sure about lightweight.

Rob Culpepper
10-15-2010, 06:55 AM
Yeah, I think the basic weight of the brain is around 6 lbs., which is a major drop from R1 - but relative to a fully outfitted camera, the lighter brain is not going to provide a major drop in weight, unless the weight of accessories drops commensurately. I'm thinking lighter batteries will make a significant difference. I've looked, but haven't been able to find a whole lot of discussion of Epic/Scarlet accessory weight.

I was part of that group buy and I can tell you this Easyrig is awesome. I've loaded it to the max (I like my Red fully equipped, 2 batteries, drive, monitor, mattebox, filters, follow, etc...) and I don't feel the camera at all. I once shot for 2 hours with a 10 minute break... (As opposed to shoot 10 minutes with a 2 hours break sans Easyrig)

And the group buy price was great too!

It's great to hear the positive review. This seems to be what most are saying, at least for Cinema 3 and earlier models - but haven't seen many comments yet on Vario 4.

I might also be up if there was a new round.

Worked with an easyrig last year, and not only does it save your back - it literally lets you do shots that would be impossible to do handheld, and time-consuming on a tripod. Loved it.

Shane Kelly

I think the vario version might have been taken off the market. Don't take this as fact as I can't remember where I heard it, it may have been at NAB last year. I've had an easyrig 2.5 since they first came out and it has save my back many times. It got me through 3 seasons of "friday night lights" with a fully loaded sr3, panavision zooms and wireless transmission. It also rents really well.
They are expensive at first but well worth it in the long run.
I should test the epic on it but It should work really well, especially loaded up.

Anders Holck

Yes, currently the Easyrig 4 Vario is on hold.
I spoke with them at NAB and IBC last year.
The reason is noise issues with the variable gas cylinder.
During production of the Vario the supplier of the cylinder changed, and the new one was found to get noisy over time.
They could not get the issue solved so they chose to halt production until a solution is found.

Would love to get some feedback from Easyrig 4 Vario owners who've been using it the last couple of years. Too bad they're so hard to find, I can't justify buying an Easyrig 3 because of the narrow weight range, and it sounds like quite a chore to swap out tension cables. Anyone interested in selling theirs? Have users experienced noise issues with the gas cylinders? Sounds like they were having to send most of the cylinders back to the manufacturer, so hopefully Easyrig's QC caught onto any issues before shipping units out.
