Moving the entire operation to LA? Or just having a second So Cal location there?

They're keeping the OC location and still building the NV location.

RED Studios in Hollywood looks to be primary for Bomb Squad, camera support, camera demos, etc.

That way they are closer to the projects/industry. Good move on RED's part.

Brilliant move. Absolutely brilliant.

Lots of good memories there over the years. Way back when (1979), my very first gopher job on a commercial for a brand of beer that doesn't even exist anymore was shot at that studio.

The Eagles rehearsed for their Long Run tour on the big stage there, way back when as well. All the band members were very friendly to us grunts working on the lot. Even let us sneak a listen while they rehearsed. Good times indeed.

And now RED blazes a very exciting new trail within those gates.

Congrats to all. I am stoked.

Jim is awesome in many ways. But what's most awesome about him, IMO, is that he is a genius visionary.... but one who has the resources to MOVE MOUNTAINS in service of his vision. And that is very rare.

Is that Graeme Nattress beside him?

Yep that's the back of Graeme's head.

So as we were all told at the event tonight, they are keeping the OC location open and are still going to build the RED Ranch in Las Vegas. But having a location like this in the heart of Hollywood will be invaluable to RED. Plus beats driving all the way down to Lake Forest to get service done on the camera or to pickup some gear. I'm very excited for the future of RED.

You know that's the MAROON CARTOON studios from Roger Rabbit. Any word on when the Ranch is going up in Vegas? A couple of weekends ago I drove past and as far as I could tell they hadn't even started site work yet. As my ancestors would say (if you could find any): It will be hard to kill a camera system that's set up a fort in hostile territory.

If anyone has tried to RENT let alone purchase space in LA.. You can imagine what an undertaking this is. Have you envisioned what the sound stage will look like with a massive RED LOGO on the wall outside.

This is a huge thing in a lot of ways.

For those of you outside of LA that do not realize how big this purchase is... check out:

Former Ren-Mar Studios >>> (http://www.renmarstudios.com/)

"Ren-Mar Studios began its Hollywood life as Metro Pictures Back Lot #3.
The year was 1915. Metro had sent a troupe of filmmakers to Hollywood to establish a West Coast studio.
Along with the legendary light of Los Angeles, these pioneers found a small studio in the heart of Hollywood,
surrounded by bungalows and orange groves. Over the years at this site, the company expanded with success
eventually moving most of its film production to Hollywood.

The story of the Cahuenga Lot reads like the script of a Hollywood epic. Ramon Navarro, in 1923, swashbuckled through
the palace of Louis XVI and a country French village in the silent “Scaramouche”, and in 1924, young Jackie Coogan floated
on the South Sea lagoon created for “Little Robinson Crusoe”. A few years later, in 1931, another young Jackie (Cooper) along
with the great Wallace Beery, broke our hearts in “The Champ”. Marlon Brando marched around Stage #9 in “The Men”
and Gary Cooper walked alone at “High Noon” in 1952.

We’ve had diva’s, from Grace Kelley to Gwen Stefani and Barbara Streisand to Brittany Spears. The padded walls have rocked
with Motown and Mozart, the Rat Pack and Linkin Park, Yanni and Jane’s Addiction. We’ve had good guys and bad guys too.
Robin Williams, Michael Jackson, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Bob Dylan, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Roger Rabbit have all felt right
at home here in the shadow of the Hollywood Sign.

For anyone who has stayed up past their bedtime to watch TV Land Television, you have been amused and delighted by the many
“Golden Age of Television” shows that broke the rules and paved the way for the “Friends” and “Bachelors” of today. As Desilu Cahuenga Studios
from 1953 through 1967 when Paramount Studios acquired all Desilu holdings, the studio buzzed with the birth of a new and exciting art form.
“I Love Lucy”, “Our Miss Brooks”, “Danny Thomas Show”, “The Jack Benny Show”, “The Real McCoys”, “I Spy”, “Hogan’s Heroes”, “That Girl”,
“Make Room for Daddy”, “The Dick Van Dyke Show” and many other classic television shows were created here.

In recent years, the studio, owned and operated independently since 1974, has been home to television, film, music video and special
event producers of a new generation. From “The Golden Age of Television” to “The Golden Girls”, from MTV to the WB, from
“Ally McBeal” to “Lizzie McGuire”, Ren-Mar Studios continues to provide a Home in the Heart of Hollywood for today’s future classics."

Graeme

Correct, but I must say that if you achieve that on the nice but simple set up, I'm sure that with the right exposure and proper lighting set up to match 6400 can offer a fantastic capture of otherwise lost images, in more of one occasion it will happen were you wish you had this possibility, even if it could mean a bit of extra work in post, but saving the day, to me is what is all about, both in Motion capture as well as in Still Capture.

Looking forward to start shooting... IT!!

See what happens when you are away from RedUser for just one day.

I can't ever think of the former Ren-Mar studios without laughing thinking of Artie Lange running from the studios being chased by his agents and managers, ending up in the produce department at the Pavilions next-door throwing fruit at everybody. If you haven't read "Too Fat To Fish", you should.

Congrats on the new digs; glad to have you guys nearby.

Seriously though, Jobs might have taken CEO of the decade (http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/11/05/apple_co_founder_steve_jobs_named_fortune_ceo_of_t he_decade.html) for the first of the 21st century. But I think 10-20 might be yours Jim!

Yeah I was also impressed with the low noise and the lack of a fixed pattern of noise as well.

The shot of Leo lit by match @ 1280 iso was very impressive, The 4k sony projector was also very nice. The presentation by park Road post was very cool. Red Cine X is great (just wish t would stop crashing...witch it will eventually).

All in all a fun day at RED Studios.....

Can't wait to shoot on the new sensor.
