Hi there,
I'm looking for some solutions that are vailable for using/editing RED without compromising other formats (and stay some kind of versatile editor).

I was wondering if I get a Mac Pro and put in it a red rocket card and a AJA KONA3 if the configuration will work or if it will cause crashes and conflists ?

Also, as far as I understand it, Red Rocket seems to be for editing/playing real time 4K files. If it's that, am I right thinking that the KONA3 should get the work done if I use a 2K or lessK proxy and/or convert the files to ProRes 4444 ?

If some wise people could help me on this it would be very very nice.

Works all day long. No conflicts. No crashes. Get's a bit warm in the box though.

Can you tell me what configuration you are running?

We have issue using our Kona 3 and Rocket in the same box. The timeline is 1920x1080 ProRes HQ 10bit. I monitor audio on the digital out of the mac, while editing and when I switch to use the audio on the kona during layoff, I experience dropped frames. Took out the Rocket and put the Kona back in slot 2 and all was good...

MACPRO 2 x 3.2 quad core
8GB Ram
slot 1 Nvidia 8800 GT
slot 2 Rocket
slot 3 Kona 3
slot 4 ATTO Celerity

Rob,

We have 2 systems running with no issues. Here is the config.

MACPRO 2 x 2.93 quad core
12GB Ram
slot 1 ATI Radeon HD 4870
slot 2 Rocket
slot 3 Kona 3
slot 4 Dulce Raid controller

We are running one system with:

MACPRO 3.2ghz 8-core
16GB Ram
slot 1 Nvidia 8800
slot 2 Rocket
slot 3 Kona 3
slot 4 Areca SAS

Raid is a bit slower now it seems(was in Slot 2), but still fast as we need it to be.
Also notice problems, occasionally, when going prores444 timeline to hdsdi 1080i 29.97 to CRT in FCP. Have to shift to 720 output to work sometimes.

ditto what mark said. and with an ATI 4870 500MB Graphic Card AND
A MAxx Digital RAID CARD. :)

works great, but indeed can get warm. We soak ours in liquid nitrogen...

not really. Just better to use it in bursts, like a good machine gun.

Hi all,

we are running an early 2008 Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2x3 GHz MAC PRO and like to have the RR, a Dulce Raid controller and a GeForce card on that system. But it doesn't matter which order the cards are placed on the board, RR wouldn't do a full debayer in realtime (RCX). In the system profiler it says, that the GeForce would have x16 lane, the rocket x8 lane and the Dulce card x4 lane. It doesn't matter in which order I put in the cards they'll have the above lane configuration. Shouldn't the RR card have x16 slot? I tried it the way described above but it won't work...

Any advices?? Do I miss anything?

Thanks,

Severin
