I've been (as we all have) incredibly excited with all the developments the new sensor, color science, etc, are bringing to the table.
I just wish we could get a little more info on Scarlet S35, which is the Scarlet I am saving up to buy.
We didn't get any new info on November 30th expect the price and a general release date.
So, how is it coming along? :smile5:

It's essentially a scaled-down Epic-X/S35 and I think the plan is that it will still hit the market before the 2/3" Scarlet models. I'd expect more info on RED DAY Feb. 13... And hopefully working prototypes and more info at NAB.

In the posted announcements the 2/3" cams will come before S35 Scarlet but after Epic-X/S35. I don't think we will see Scarlet S35 until the demand for Epic-X is satisfied at least.

Yea, that would be my view too.... an early release of the Scarlet S35 could certainly sway a few people that are undecided about whether they need an Epic or not.
I hope i'm wrong though, as Epic is just out of my range and the Scarlet s35 is about perfect for me.

How great do you guys feel the gap is between the interchangeable 2/3 Scarlet and the S35.
For budget reasons I can either get the 2/3 and get it fully accessorized, or a bare-bones S35.
Obviously, there's the benefit of moving from a 2/3 sensor - but where does the S35 fall in terms of the market it aims at? Low budget film-makers? Film students?

Given that it should produce an image almost exactly on par with the S35 Epic (minus the slo-mo frame rates), I would think it would be welcome in all tiers of filmmaking, from low budget to full-fledged Hollywood spectacle.

To be honest, I've never had a need for the higher frame rates because I've rarely had occasion to use them - and unless its something sepcific for a client i would imagine not having them wouldnt be something I'd miss.
Guess I'm going to have to do some major saving!

Has there been anything announced specifically about the frame rates for the S35?

In the older announcements it was 1-30 fps sustained at full resolution with a burst mode of up to 72 fps for a short time.

Previous specs were 1-30fps continous with 72fps burst (3-4 seconds) at full resolution, up to 72fps continuous at 2k crop. May change though.

obviously only the framerates seperate epic s35 and scarlet s35, but there is
more...one example is that scarlet cant dequeeze ana shoots, and different redcodes will be available on epic, maybe some special ones (greenscreen f.e), but yet to confirmed what that exactly means, and frame overlay, and i guess over the curse of builds features will be added to epic, like little things that make life much easier, for example different luts for the several monitoring options, more exposure tools, mainly all the red one stuff ( custom framguides for example) plus many more we dont know yet...i guess scarlet will get a set of features and always will be behind epic relating features and builds, simple reason: the brain will not has the same power as the epic one....
just think of a build 8 R1 and a Build 21 R1...here you see that these are two completly different cameras, though both share the same hardware...now imagine that difference between epic and scarlet...i am trying to understand the difference of 20k...it cant be framerate only :)

It better NOT be framerate only...

This is the cam I want! I hope it doesn't come to much later than the 2/3.
