Holy crap--the eyes have it--I almost fell off my chair.

I guess tomorrow I'm going to have to go kick the g5 to the curb and buy the new mac pro I've been putting off to the last possible minute.

I have to see this quality of image move and I know once the initial footage is posted I haven't got a chance.

One complaint and this is directed at RED not the footage.

*.Tif works on all computers
*.Tiff is poorly supported on PCs.

I know REDAlert! is Mac only for now, but... other people have to deal with this footage. Please change your default or else I'm going to have to run Sequence 911 on all the footage to rename the extensions.

I just blasphemed... and sharpened the eyes just a bit in photoshop. Very nice. I love having control over this without the camera default dictating this. Graeme's genius has payed off.

For the record - bluring the chroma channels only will do a good job of removeing chromatic aberations in over sharpened footage. I am doing this right now on a Phantom job - nice camera but it appears to have very little or no low pass filtering and suffers from rather extreme CA. The chroma-blur trick works well and goes a long way towards removing that harsh highlight "video look"

Define Jaggles?

Didn't want to get into it b/c unsharp was used in PSD and also it looks a little soft (slightly out of focus) but can't deny its there. But who knows what the original file looks like, maybe it will be uploaded for comparison.

Still, the 2k compressed looks stunning. I am glad I am ticket holder, and these aint no wolf tickets!!!

yeh lets forget the nightcan one ever happened eh :-)

Watching that 2K mov though brought back my Red confidence super quick. Looks great.

I think what this (at very early stages) is showing, is just how hard it's going to be to hit focus at 4K. I think this is why we're getting some early sharpened/processed images, which is to be expected...

I read in the FX article that they didnt think Red had as wide a Dynamic Range as the F23. I thought it was a bit early to judge on that, unless they know something we dont.

BTW thanks to the all nighter team for doing this. Exciting times.

Mikael Lubtchansky
09-01-2007, 03:23 AM
Remember the nightcan image is ISO 2000 and has way too much unsharp mask applied in photoshop so we should not judge the RED ONE from this shot.

The 2K H264 (at 800 or 1000 ISO, no curve/postprocessing) is truely AMAZING !!!

Thanks guys for posting early tests for all of us.
