Did anyone know about any necessary deposit to add on our camera reservation concerning the accessories list after last mid-March's annoucement?
We will post the price list on www.red.com about 5pm PST today. All reservation holders from 1-1460 will receive a one time "reservation allowance" to be used when purchasing accessories for the RED ONE camera. This "allowance" amount will be deducted from the total purchased package price.

Hey Emanuel,
I distinctly remember one of the Red team mentioning (I'm almost sure it was Jim, but may be mistaken), that we didn't need to choose our accessories until our cameras were ready to ship. Which led me to believe that no deposits on accessories were required ?

Just to confirm,
I'm pretty sure that message was directed for us Res holders with the credit that Jim has so kindly given us.

Seth.

I was never sent anything regarding this. I knew there was a deposit for lenses, or the first ones announced NAB '06, but hadn't heard anything about the accessories, especially since they weren't locked down design-wise. If so, I probably would have ordered the Red-Gun, just for shits-n-giggles.

You will have to put up a 10% deposit when you order your accessories, but you didn't have to order them in advance.

What? How long has this been in effect? How were reservation holders notified?
thanks.

When they will contact you for your camera, you will order your accessories and at that moment you will have to put up a 10% deposit. When everything is ready to be shipped you pay the balance.

Just out of curiosity, did you order your camera through the red.com store, or through other means? I wonder if the confusion is for us who ordered before the store was up.
Thanks.

Emanuel, you're scaring all of us.
You're misunderstood this thread/poll.
There's no fears about anything.
Maybe I had no given information enough.
This thread is not about the allowance. It's about the Premium production pack. When Jim released the price list, we couldn't put any deposit on our accessories list order 'cause we would wait for their instructions in order to fill up our reservation.
It seems there are some people saying that the lack of interest on the Premium production pack (referred by Jim on one of his most recent threads announcing the end of the PPC) would come from this absence from our part.
My point is:
With the due respect (and Jim knows my dedication to our cause), Jim is wrong. There couldn't be any lack of interest simply 'cause we couldn't order what we're waiting to proceed now (not before the release and our payment in order to complete our order).

Maybe they are gauging interest from orders after the store was up and running.
Like 600 orders and only 5% of them put deposits on PPP.
This is pure SPECULATION, in the spirit of this thread...

Here is a post by Kelly from April 23rd :
For forecasting purposes, it is best if you place your accessory order sooner rather than later and place the deposit down. If you are part of the early reservation holders getting the credit toward accessories, we will apply it at the time we invoice you. I hope this clears up any questions you may have.
Thanks!

So basically, I never saw it as mandatory but a reccomendation. I personally haven't made my order yet, but was planning to do it quite some time ahead. I'm actually planning to do right after IBC, which would make it 2 months before my planned delivery.
As to the Red premium production pack, for those that are bummed out it's being canceled, it's still listed on red.com, run there and put your order in and your deposit down, there's no better way to let Jim and team know that there is a demand for it. It's only a $275 deposit. Go ! Now !
edit : As to the vote, I can't say yes or no, your options are too limited ! I guess a lot of people simply didn't see Kelly's post at the time.

Damien

I appreciate very much your input however, I can't agree 100% with you. How "limited"? Not "too limited" not even "limited". Sometimes, in life the things are so easy than the millions colors we can get, like the americans love: yes or no.
I'm afraid and granted all those inputs recently added -- you included!, the only answer is «No». This should be the only option available, if that's what you'd like to mention as a limited options poll... LOL But since I am a democratic one, I can't get know how there are about 1/4 of early adopters [the large(r) number -- 3/4 know what they want and counts] saying the opposite to their own interests. And not less important, against the truth and fairness. The only one with vote here.
Regards,
Emanuel ;-)
EDIT -- On your suggestion that I support (how could I be differently?... :)), it's already done. Order accomplished. Though I think it shouldn't be necessary according their own instructions! But it is a good idea indeed -- in order to show to the RED company what should be their understanding for this matter.

Personnaly I have been said at Nab07 that early reservation holders didn't have to order the accessories, but a few months after I send an e-mail to Kelly, and she advised me to order them, so RED can see how many accessories are being ordered.

If you're talking about the payment via credit card, you can send it by wire transfer (the option is there, not to bold but there -- as a fair alternative).

I think Concrete is referring to the $2500 credit that is awarded to all those who were issued a serial number. Or maybe it was only the first 1000 cameras. The credit is applied to your balance when you make final payment via check or wire transfer.

Hi Emanuel,
Thank you for your comment. I don't quite understand your reference to the american love, and I don't think it's as easy as yes or no in any case. About limited, I was just saying, while I certainly didn't get a message ordering accessories was mandatory, I did understand it was suggest we do so, therefore I can't just answer yes or no.
In any case, I have faith in Jim & co, and I'm sure that those that want the ppp will be able to get it, it just might not be be a "package".

If you ordered back in November of 06 and January 07
Quote from E-mail dated March 14, 2007
"We greatly appreciate your enthusiasm for the RED project and have chosen to reward the early adopters that have put in reservations by offering a $2500 credit towards your purchase price on the various accessories to trick out your REDONE camera. This is only for reservations holders, all new orders that come in at NAB and beyond do not get this perk."

Thanks Sanjin,
I think the confusion stems from the fact that the information was fluid and tended to change from source to source. On really big items like glass, especially the primes, I put down a deposit as soon as the RED Store went live... we all remember some hiccups though... I was very well taken care of by Kelly and a another gentleman from RED. But things like PPP, I did not... To me you have to have something for support and it's design was in a constant state of flux (which is also great). That state of constant development I believe led many to wait--- myself included. I thought camera support was a given and NOBODY told me you must do it! If they had I would...
I appreciate the RED Team beyond any words I can muster but I also appreciate Emanuel and his heart has always been in the right place as well...
I hope everyone has a great weekend, especially the first 25....

Andrew

Yes, well what if the early bird thought it was getting a worm but in fact was a cat. Not so cool...
The design was and is still quite fluid... changes in design can move the imaginary "real cost" line all over the place... (I say this kindly and with a smile Dextor-- no direspect intended my man) But in this case the early bird did not get the worm... it will be getting ala cart. ;-)

I was under the same impression....that reservation holders didn't need to order accessories until cameras were shipped. I understood that there was a desire but not necessarily a requirement to order to gauge demand. I based my understanding on this posting by Jim on 4/15/07
" Reservation holders are protected for future accessory orders, so relax. The new orders are primarily for new customers. If you are serial number 33 and want accessories, relax. You will be in front of orders taken at NAB or online tomorrow. We plan to ship cameras with accessories in order of camera reservations... there was an advantage to having faith.
If you want to place an new order as of tomorrow... the sooner the better. And no serial numbers will be handed out tomorrow on... all new orders will be handled by "time stamp".

I try to follow everything on this forum. But I get busy, and this forum has so many posts it's hard to keep up. If Red needs us reservation holders to respond or act, we should get an email. It's the same effort as making a post here. I don't mean they should email us with every detail update; that's what this forum is for. But if they need us to act or respond . . . .
This is not a criticism, just a suggestion; I am a definite Red fan-boy.
