First off, I'd like to appologize if I'm repeating any questions previously asked by other members. I did search for answers but this forum grows faster then wildfire.

I do almost all the the first light corrections and transcoding of RED footage at our office. Currently for project work I use Clipfinder and RED ALERT for grading, and transcode using RED RUSHES. I'm intersted in the new REDCINE - X build as it has the new color and gamma space. After playing around with it for a bit I have a few questions.

1. In RED ALERT any chances you make to the R3D are saved in a RSX file and remain associated with the R3D unless deleted or altered. Does REDCINE -X do such a thing? Or is there a way to save a project (like the old REDCINE) so that the changes you've made are saved, and can be recalled at a later date? This way you don't need to save a preset for every single adjustment you make.

2. What's the processing time like compared to RED RUSHES? We work on a very quick turn around which usually works like this : Shoot, Grade in the same day, Transcode overnight, cut and deliver within days of shooting.
If I can still transcode about 250 GB of 4k 16:9 RC36 to 720p Pro Res 422(HQ) over night, then I'm all good.

3. Is anyone using this on real projects yet? I know we're still in (early)Beta, but I'd love to hear from somebody thats made the move from RED ALERT to 'X' and their thoughts.

4. Does REDCINE-X attach audio like RED RUSHES, or ignore it like the old REDCINE ?

Thank you in advance!
- Aaron

aaron for what you do you should seriously look into a rocket!

rt transcoding,
autosync bwf files
one light
many many more things
if this is your main business a rocket is a no brainer in your situation

Yup, Recon Thoughts and Tips

PS. Just to be clear, I'm Talking REDCINE-X not ROCKET-X.. I do not have a Rocket Card.

Hi Aaron,

1. There is a save function in RCX, which I believe will save your entire session, bins, edit etc. Seems very useful.

2. I use a rocket so I don't know the times. But from what I have seen so far, totally worth it just for FLUT, new color space and other amazing features.

3. I am using it on a real project right now. I'm blown away by how much BETTER my footage looks than it did in Red Alert/Rushes. The new color space is AMAZING. The skin tones are out of this world and FLUT has changed everything. It's fantastic!

4. Yep, audio is attached and follows through into your transcodes.

In a nutshell, RedCine X is the future. If you haven't played with it, set some time aside and go through it, it's pretty amazing.

Just out of interest, what do you use Red Alert and Red Rushes for in this workflow? Clipfinder 2.2 combines all this into one app.

Its been my workflow since before clipfinder included transcoding, one of those things I've just stuck with because it's familiar and I actually don't mind the process. And seeing as it produces the same results, I figured why switch?
Don't get me wrong, clipfinder is a very powerful tool, and I do use it often, just never graded in it.
