Only in fairness it is important to add that the Birger mount is no longer greenlit by RED, meaning that you lose both your warranty on your R1 and trade-in option to an Epic.

Martin, why are you continually raising this topic? :beatdeadhorse5:

Really think it is time for you to move on from the role of self appointed "Birger Warranty Police"... your position is rather hypocritical... care for me to expound on this?

It's also possible to Birgerize a RED after the trade-in is complete without any risk at all, so these are very tempting. Especially if the forthcoming EPIC Canon mounts do not fit the RED (likely).

Billy, can you post the original retail value for your Birger kits - don't want to try to dig it out of that thread.

Eric,

Don't worry, I am not out on a personal Birger Vendetta. (I am actually a Birger owner, and use the mount on pretty much all our RED projects, and am very happy about its build quality. I do not know of a better mount for the Canon.)

That said, I have and will continue to warn people about using products that may or will void their warranty, as there are many users unaware of this issue. I am not singling out the Birger mount. Last week for example Allstar started offering their PL/Canon/Contax mount, and I advised about the warranty situation. I can understand your frustration about the warranty issue, but I'm sure you would not want someone to pay a premium for a low serial number used R1, only to unknowingly void their upgrade path by installing the Birger mount.

As Meryem said, I also think that once the trade-ins are executed, Birger will have a revival, with many new users post-fitting their R1s with your excellent mount. (If RED should at some point clarify that one doesn't need to send in the R1 for the upgrade option 2, then this might come even earlier.)

And Billy, sorry for taking your thread off-subject. But take it as a chance to get a free bump ;)

Martin, thanks for the replay but I think it's great for people to go into a sale completely knowledgeable and i had no idea of the current situation.

That being said, it's a world class mount and our clients have really enjoyed it and have taken some amazing footage with it and these lenses.. so hopefully they find a good home!

If interested, these lenses have been listed at a new site we will be using exclusively moving forward for the rest of our sales. eBay fees are going to start to get ridiculous for us.

It's works just like eBay and we'll be adding new items daily. But the fees are a fraction of eBay's.

Nice find! I hate eBay / Paypal.

They need some serious competition to put them in their place....

Martin, not to hijack the thread, was the Birger Mount ever approved by RED? Or was it the general excitement about the product that most assumed it was okay to use on the RED One?

Yes, it was fully approved by RED for a while, provided that you could satisfy Birger that you had the technical competance to install it without causing damage to the RED or the Birger. You had to sign a contract with Birger which was forwarded to RED to get final approval, and to provide RED with the knowledge of which REDs had the Birger installed at some point in their life. Sadly circumstances changed and RED approval was withdrawn for new installations, although fortunately existing Birger users were able to keep approval.
