With the red lenses available are SLR lenses really that important?

the option to use stills lenses gives users more options so for some people it is important.

For me and many others on this forum it's all-important 'cause it's the only route affordable to us. I for one intend to make a point of going SLR 'til the end . But it would be nice to see tests and how they compare to cine lens footage.

I'm curious to see the results too. Especially on the Zeiss primes.

Yes, because some of us cannot afford to get RED's Zoom lens set and we are not buying the red to make profits by renting it out. The Red will be our one and only main camera.
p/s: i also think the CF port should have at least 2 or 3 hot swappable slots, so we can continue shooting, downloading and swapping cards.

I would agree, with a good number of prime and zoom Nikon lenses in our cupboard we are very interested to hear/see what the results would be...

Yes, if still lenses are good enough to stick on
a redrock micro on an HVX then I would think
on a RED without the adapter????

Wouldn't one of the current Canon or Nikon full-frame DLSR bodies pretty much show you what a still lens looks like on a 12 Mpixel sensor ? It seems like the sensor-specific stuff is already apparent from the posted images, things like dynamic range don't depend very much on the lens unless you have a soft filter or a really scratched element :-). And lens-specific stuff like depth of field, bokeh etc. should be the same on any sensor of the same size. Ok, resolution wide open is probably a combination of lens and sensor, but I believe resolution stopped down for most lenses better than a coke bottle, will still be limited by the sensor.

Probably sorta... but 2 things. First s35 isn't full frame. It's about a 1.5 crop factor or so. Second, you can't stick a RED lens or Cooke etc. on a 35mm SLR so you can't compare how the little lenses do vs. the expensive lenses.

I'm pretty familiar with how my Nikon lens collection performs with my cameras. And my D2x is 12Mpixel and very comparable in dimensions to the Mysterium. I'm more interested to see how these still lenses work out in an actual production environment from a point of view of actually using them... Which FF hardware works best, how do the free-spinning focus rings and relatively short focus throws come into play.
Evin had a great post yesterday on some of this using a Chrosziel FF with a DSLR setup. I'm anxious to see these pieces come into place with a RED camera.

in theory, YES. But most often, whats on paper and what's real are two totally different result. I for one hoped for the former. We will never know without a proper test. I wonder who (#5-25)bought the nikon or canon mount with their RED. Seems like everyone purchased the RED zoom and RED prime.
