Just curious if anyone has ever seen a film/or tests on a movie screen that was shot with a hi-def and mini35 (or the equivalent) combo. Looks great on a monitor, but I've just never seen it projected.

I'm not sure, but the few films that shot on the XL1 may have used them. 28 days later, and some of 28 weeks later with the Sony handheld HD. It looks like they may have used an adapter.

I ran a course in Europe where we shot with and without a pro 35 on a f900.
We used range of lenses on f900 including Fuji Prime.

We transferred to film. In a large screen cinema we viewed our test material as well as the movie Collateral for reference and to finish off the popcorn and martinis...

A local DP who used the pro 35 for a movie was on the course, he had never done a film out test using T 1.5 primes on a f900.

After seeing how sharp the prime was compared to soft Pro35 he said he would never again trade overall softness of image for reduced depth of field.

IMHO Pro 35 is a big mistake for a large screen presentation UNLESS you really like its particular flavour of soft look on a big screen.

No question that it would be softer. I don't see this a necessarily a disadvantage. I guess it's contingent upon preference. I wonder if any grain patterns are visible on a film-out (probably more-so with a static adapter when panning).
