Yes, Avid is also on apple. From Xpress to Symphony. But nitris (hardware accelerator) and DS wich could finish in 4k are on PC only.

Redcode is not yet implemented in Avid.

But this could change... Hopefully for them.

REDCODE REVOLUTION is going to hit them too!

No not hopefully for *them*. Hopefully for us! I like using avid and want it to be as easy as possible to use with RED.

HI Jarred Maybe it would be good to have classifications:
Mac
PC
Rather than Mac/Avid.
Perhaps under PC/ Premiere/Avid/Sony/Discreet/ etc
Perhaps under Mac/ Final cut/Avid

Hmmm... The only problem I foresee with that TJ is split conversations (e.g. there are two separate Avid forums with that system) - could get a little confusing, although I appreciate that the Avid systems on the Mac are a little different/out of step with their PC counterparts at the moment (hopefully soon to change!).

Personally, I don't see why the Apple section is hardware + software based, whereas the others are software only - I would suggest a change to:
> Redcine Workflow
> FCS Workflow
> Avid Workflow
> Etc...

Any takers?!

Oh, and Gavin - I couldn't agree more...

This is more like it. The subforums should be software based and not platform based. But why the suffix "Workflow"? We're already in the "4k Workflow" Forum. Just call them "REDCine", "Final Cut Studio", "Avid", "Premiere" etc. And by the way: why "4k Workflow"? These forums should apply to all kinds of workflows I think (i.e. 2k etc.)?

So my suggestion would be:

Workflow

REDCine
Final Cut Studio
Avid
Premiere
...

What do you think?

Agreed, good points all Big L... There's nothing wrong with a 2k workflow, after all!

I agree Dominic and Big Lebowski,

We're gonna be archiving our 4k Redcode masters and then going 2k with Avid from there.

It's one (really big) thing to do a 4K online etc, but 4K VFX .. maybe one day, but not today (for us). (Although some 4K movies have their effects done at 2k, but that's another story).

Cheers,
Seth.

Hey Seth - your Red's gonna be mine's brother! Kind of funny that two cameras that were next to each other on the production line are going to end up about as far apart as is possible without leaving the planet!!

Anyway, it looks like some sort of consensus is being reached here - Jarred, care to step in and comment/put this into action/tell us why we're talking bollocks or whatever you feel is appropriate?

Avid is in a major transition right now. After Krall split, upper management realized they need to figure out what to do now that FCP is making major ground. There are changes afoot.

I'm a beta tester with them and have reminded AVID a few times about Red's arrival and the associated reservation queue...that's a lot of customers that will go directly to FCP because there is no other available integrated solution...

Avid does have to however solve the big question of managing high resolution I/O affordably. The cheapest way to get HD SDI I/O is the Adrenaline box but it isn't even uncompressed (have to use DNXcel board and codec). That solution is 20K. Of course we know we can buy ~4TB storage, a new MacPro with monitors, Kona3 with BOB and FCP studio for less than that.
