1. FREEDOM! Freedom from waiting, Freedom from stress, Creative Freedom knowing I can do whatever I want and post won't be an issue.
2. Full Debayer - wonderful if not critical.
3. Realtime feedback, especially when trying to determine how far I can push without introducing noise.
For me it's no longer a luxury, the Rocket is 100% necessity for ANYONE who works with Red footage. It's like buying the car but only paying for the rear wheels. Sure it will scrape around at 3 MPH and you will eventually get to the mall, but why would anyone in their right mind do this when you can get the other wheels for another 15% of the cost?
No Brainer in my book.

Thanks for the feedback guys, as I take, the Redrocket is intended for Redcine-X and Rocketcine-X use? Can it be used with Red Rushes, Final Cut Pro, or CS4 yet? If not, are there plans for that?

No current support for Red Rushes, Final Cut Pro, or CS4, but it has been very loudly requested along with COLOR support. It's in the future, but it depends partially on some external support from companies other than RED it is going to happen slower

Mike how do you incorporate it into your workflow then? Are you doing offlining and onlining? If onlining, are you using something like Crimson to get your EDL into Redcine-X?

the odds of RedRocket EVER powering the FCP timeline is something I give a 0.0% of ever happening, unless FCP redesigned their engine to not be exclusively built ontop of QT. Or unless they figured out how to make the RR power the Red QT component, that might work

to be able to do this.

Nice.. Any idea if we can take a RR card and put it into a DIY enclosure similar to yours?

does anybody offline with r3d? thereby saving (a) a transcode and (b) doublng up on data.
surely the goal is to dispense with the costly, complicated and labour intensive transcode step.

Mine is Magma Expressbox2. I think Magma sells the backplane and the interfaces separately, too so you can build it in a different case.

Hey Rick!
If you get up to Napa in the next few after you get your MX upgrade, look me up please!
I am having to wait to the last minute on any additions and would love to check with you on your experience once you get your "Baby" pimped!
I have a couple of fresh new brews ready: Blonde Ale and a nice Porter.

Alan! I'll do that man.. I might have shoot up there on the 20th, we will see.. If not, I'll let you know my thoughts, hopefully via my own testing. Likewise, if you come to LA, you're more than welcome to come over and see the pimped out baby! Hope you're well

Thanks!
Have not found much work for RED yet. Got a couple of projects that I hope will bear fruit. Till, then, keepin' time on the day job!

What transcode times are you guys getting to Apple ProRes 4444 and also DPX? Trying to figure out if DPX image sequences (with the proper RAID) is much faster than transcoding to ProRes.
