Could anyone give me an overlook of how much 3D gear rental is costing at the moment? For example two REDs with rig with everything or 2 SI-2Ks with everything...

Would be great.

cheers.

That's unfortunately too wide a question to answer usefully!

The facilities that different rigs have vary enormously.

Do you want active IO? do you want active convergence? do you want to be able to slave and pre-program either/both of these as well as focus?

Do you want to use zoom lenses, this opens a whole new can of worms.

I'm teaching a 3D workshop in Toronto at the moment for the CSC and we have multiple rigs, 2 RED based rigs, on from the 3DCC her in Toronto which has all the usual adjustments available but none of the usable live, in other word you set-up what you want and then shoot with those settings.

The Element Technica RED rig we have has active everything and you can vary everything during shots.

The 3DCC rig will have these facilities in the future.

On the other hand we also have the tiny SI rig that Element Technica built for Dark Country, which we're showing tonight, and it's 2 SI cameras in a mirror rig with variable IO, this is variable during shot, but no convergence facilities.

Now, does lack of convergence bother you? this is where we get in to religion!

So, sorry not to be more helpful but you need to be much more specific about what you want a 3D rig to do before you can start looking at price because the question as asked could be answered anything from $2K per week to $25K per week, not really a lot of help!!

I think element rig rent from Keslow for around $3k a day.

but your question is too general. What lenses, lens control system, filters on and on and on.

There is alot of gear that would complete a package......depends on your budget.

Abel rents the Element 3D rig as well. It really does depend on what you need. When you talk about the rig, plus two cameras, pair of MATCHED lenses (or lens sets), stereo lens controller, heavy duty support system, 3D monitoring, multiplexer, stereo recording, stereographer, etc., the costs can go upward of $10,000 per day.

I see. Thanks for the first insight on that.

Such a new can of worms, that 3D!
