What will I be able to do at the end with REDCINE-X?

Import of an EDL form Avid / FCP / ADOBE ?
Will it be possible to import an Audiomixdown of a timeline as well?

Will be REDCINE-X a simple finishing tool at the end?

Thanks for explaining

No question is stupid... however let me break it down like this...

Redcine is a transcoding application, with ever increasing power as a one light color correction tool. It is not, nor will it ever likely be a full grading application. Redcine-X currently lacks EDL/XML support but we hear it's on it's way. With that you will be able to transcode selects from an edit, to prep for further grading with another tool. For some the tools with in Redcine-X might be sufficient for the look they want to achieve.

Redcine-X does not support any kind of video card (SDI video) output, so it's not really an editorial program, you can't output video directly from it. It's designed to read .R3D files and turn them into something else while giving you all the raw file control.

I like to think of Redcine as the brains of the Red One, with out the sensor... in other words, you have all the control over the file the Red One creates, it speaks the same language. Unless you have a Scratch system, or until more NLE finishing tools support .R3D workflow native, Redcine is the best tool you have in your post world.

The original Redcine (no longer available for download) is an awesome tool too, and with the help of programs like Crimson or Monkey Extract, you can currently get an XML cut list imported into old Redcine.

Thanks a lot Brandon for you reply and explanations…

I could not find an official outline what REDCINE-X will be doing at the end.
EDL/XML support would be great - yes.

Crimson and old Redcine are still available. I just found :

http://www.crimsonworkflow.com/home.htm

But the downside of the Crimson / old Redcine Workflow is that it does not work with the new “color science” - right? Oh well…

It will open files from the newer camera builds that support color science, but it lacks some of the controls like FLUT and shadow that are included in Redcine-X. It's still a very useful tool in my opinion.

It does support the SDI output of the Red Rocket. However it does not guarantee consistently full frame rate playback or stutter free edits through it. Nor does it have deck control, so it would not be suitable for laying a finished edit to tape. But that is not its purpose.
