This gives an idea of what a poor man's RED will look like.

That's a great idea. 300fps is not bad either (albeit at lower resolution). I think it's only a matter of time before DSLR's start encroaching on the video world.

Those 300fps clips on the website look awesome. It will be great when we can get a good 2k 300fps!

Something tells me that the RED will be obsolete if you haven't ordered yet.. I wonder with what Nikon comes up, they have similar intentions.

I highly doubt it would be obsolete by then. What else would you need, other than a higher framerate? By then I'm sure Red would have quite a few new upgrades as well.

it's actually a Sony chip:

Health warning. The video is a concept video. It may not have been shot with the camera.
The proposed spec mentions 6 mega pixels at 60fps. One assumes res will be much lower at 300fps.

Form factor is useless for typical day to day shooting, but its likely lowsih price and frame rate could make it a great crash /sports pov cam...
1000fps at HD res is possible into an expensive ram buffer, maybe this kind of RAM is comming down in price to make 300fps possible in a mass market product?

But the Bottom line is that CMOS chips are cheap and are better at high frame rates than most CCDs.

I've always wondered if Nikon plans on getting into cinema anytime soon. They are a very secretive company, so who knows what they have up there sleeve. I do know this for sure, they might not be the fastest at releasing technology, but they have a way of NOT releasing half finished products either. They now have a 35mm sensor that can shoot pretty decent speeds in RAW.....

There's no doubt the Red camera was built around the Mysterium sensor. But they've also added a lot of innovative features in hardware, software, and marketing. I'm sure others will come out with 4k (or larger) sensors and enter the market. I say bring on the competition. It's good to keep the manufacturers on their toes, and it only benefits the consumers.

This sensor is 9mm diagonal vs. a RED ONE 28mm diagonal. It is a very small size sensor. The pixel size is a very small 2.5u vs. a 5.4u on the RED ONE Mysterium. The smaller the pixel, the noisier the image. You have to watch the details.

Like Cardmaverick mentioned, Nikon is a secretive company and hasn't hinted at anything like this yet.

It says what resolution on their site: 640x480 VGA

I wouldn't mind picking this camera up just to play around. You really couldn't make anything serious with it considering the noise and resolution.
