Development doesn't stand still, it is unlikely Sony or Arri will simply match RED specs because the 4K market will be saturated.


For my money the future is set on shooting on a higher res sensor and down sampling to eliminate jaggies without high pass filters.


Arri and Sony could be gunning for the next step in digital cinematography, by going for a 5k or 6k sensor, 14bit AD into 4k or 6k recording.

That is not to say RED doesn't already have a higher res sensor with 14bit AD in the pipe.
