The main drawback of the Zeiss ZF and CP primes, for me, has been that the 25mm f/2.8 is too slow. (And the 18mm f/3.5 is much too slow.)
Now:
We know that the Zeiss ZF primes and the PL Compact Primes share the same optical construction.
Zeiss have recently re-released all the Nikon ZF lenses as revised, chipped ZF.2 lenses -- except the ZF 25mm f/2.8. Press release states: (http://www.zeiss.com/C1256A770030BCE0/WebViewAllE/D678857A2FE7B525C125766D003FD150) "We are currently completely reworking and optimizing the Distagon T* 2.8/25 ZF. As a result, it will be available for other mounts somewhat later."
The eminent Mr. Duclos wrote on his blog (http://matthewduclos.wordpress.com/2010/02/18/zeiss-cp-2-lenses-make-dslr-video-proficient/), about the new Zeiss Compact Primes: "What more could you ask for? Oh, I suppose you could ask for faster lenses in the set. Zeiss is working on that too! "
Yesterday at PMA, Sony announced a new Zeiss 24mm f/2 prime for Sony SLRs. Press release (http://www.dpreview.com/news/1002/10022103sony2010.asp): "Scheduled for launch in 2010, this bright, wide angle prime is an ideal choice for reportage, naturally lit interiors and other quality-critical handheld shooting applications."
Does this indicate that the ZF 25/2.8 will be replaced by a 24/2?
And hence, probably an equivalent Compact Prime (CP.2)?
Which, I guess, would make the ZF.2 and CP.2 sets considerably more attractive for a lot of people. (People who don't like slow lenses.)
... And then bring on the 18mm f/2 :)
