Hello, all! Just wanted to ask the current owners... Did the RED ONE come with a User Manual in the box? If so, how is it? And is it available for download somewhere? I'm not getting my RED #791 until December, but I'd love to study the manual ASAP so I can hit the ground running when it does arrive.
Keep posting the great footage! :spidy:

Same here, I would love to read a manual in advance to using a camera if one is available.

Hmm, there are still a lot of "subspect to change" I guess, to much work for RED on the wrong target, if they spent there time with writing manuals at the moment. Let them work on the camera, in some weeks more will be set and clear, then there is enough time for manuals. REDs support on this site is extraordinary, thanks.

I am certain that writing an owner's manual isn't very high on the priority list right now (I know I hate writing them myself), and perhaps the UI is so intuitive, that there isn't really a need for one. A suggestion that I might offer is, how about just releasing a set of screen caps from the UI? This might give everyone enough advance information that they can answer many of their own questions, or at a minimum, formulate intelligent ones.

A manual does exist, but I don't think Red wants it posted since it was written only for the first reserve holders. Thus it will change quite a lot (I'd imagine) by the time you folks get your cameras. When I read it, pretty much the only thing in the manual that's not already covered here on RedUser is what button did what and what the menus were, and those could still change. There's no point in memorizing menus, buttons or settings that could change. It's also incomplete, since it does not cover features that will be added.

Maybe instead of a manual, they can just give us a seminar when our numbers come up.

Right, great idea. The only problem... the (future) owners are all over the world. CA is not the centre of the world...:-)

Its currently pretty close to the center of the film and television world.

Hmmm, let me see... Fellini, Bergman, Tarkovsky...
Yeah, yeah, okay, LA is a centre, my point was just that seminars would only work for a few (hundred) users from CA and vicinity but not for the rest. In other words, a manual would be a fab idea.

I know, I was just being a bit of an ass.
I do agree a manual, some UI screen caps, hell even a finger painted illustration, just something would be nice to see. Its kind of a consolation prize while waiting for your camera number to come up.

Any manual now will have most of the pages blank since most of the features/capabilities are not yet available for download.
Summary of current manual:
Turn on camera wait for it to boot.
properly set lens
point camera at subject
push button to begin recording
push button to stop recording.
finished.

Thanks for mentioning the source. It's important people get credit for their work.
