Bear with me folks.....
Our father, who art in Vancouver, hockey be thy name.
Thy will be done, the gold be won, for the women, as well as the men.
Give us this day, a Slovakia loss, and forgive us our penalties as we forgive those who cross check against us.
Lead us not into elimination, but deliver us to victory. In the name of Gretzky, Lemieux, and Gordie Howe. Amen.
█ ♥ █ GO, CANADA, GO █ ♥ █ :hurray::hurray::hurray::hurray:
ps...and let USA crush Finland so we can exact our revenge...!!!

but deliver us to victory.Where do you get the "us" concept? If you needed help ... would anyone on the team or connected to the team do anything to help you? I sometimes watch and enjoy sports, but when fans start saying, "We won"! I wonder what world they are living in .... Maybe it makes watching more fun. I pick favourites ... I wanted Danica to do better at Daytona ... what is the psychology going on here? Maybe the cheering fan can take some miniscule credit for a victory ... the athletes often thank their fans for support.

USA is gonna "Finnish" Canada. No "eh" about it, don'thchaknow?
Go Sharks! Uh, except for this coming Sunday...
Yes, we love hockey in Sacramento, CA. That's California, not Canada.

I've never understood the logic myself. I always find it humorous that it's usually "WE WON!" and "THEY LOST". Hehe.

Planning on it! :emote_popcorn:
Although, it's all just NHL guys playing against more NHL guys these days, so it doesn't have the same meaning it once did. Not as special as the 1980 Miracle Team, IMO. But not much of anything could ever top that.

Should be a good one on Sunday. I watched the US beat Finland today 6-1. All six of the US goals were in the first period. Two of them within 15 seconds of each other. Lots of fun....

To me teams and sports would be nothing without the fans, though I'm not really one I can understand the "us" concept. They put in time money and love, some of my friends feel if they aren't watching the game their team will loose without their support. Some even get mad at me when I watch the game late so I can fast forward through commercials.
Now you are right "they" did not win, but "they" experienced the win. I guess to me it makes more sense when you live in the place the team is from, "we" as in "Canada" or "Toronto".

I was listening to NPR this morning and they said the Canadian girls were drinking and smoking cigars on the ice after they won yesterday. Now that is a team I would like to be on.

Semantics fellas. Athletes need fans, fans need athletes.
I feel the hockey we have seen in this olympics is the best in many years. First time I've actually enjoyed the fact that there are a lot of NHL guys. If we could get exciting, competitive games like this all if the time in the NHL, hockey might be more popular. Won't happen though. NHL is too watered down. And they can't retract now. All they can do is let teams go bankrupt.
1980 is special for many reasons, many having very little to do with hockey.

So true. Unfortunately I was too young then to understand any of it...

Dude...you must get invited to ALL the parties.
"US" as in Canada...figure it out.....it's the Winter Olympics...it's something that happens every 4 years where athletes REPRESENTING THEIR COUNTRIES go to compete against each other...so when the athletes win...the people from that nation COLLECTIVELY celebrate the win. You may have heard of it.
This isn't a car driving around in circles.
Thanx for coming out. Good talk.

We gathered together with my friends to watch the game on tv and it was surreal... I don't know about fun but we sure laughed a lot.

Vancouver have done the Olympics proud. The ski-cross has been my favourite event, but the hockey has been great and I'm glad Canada came through their semi. Shame the GB team didn't qualify:

The viewer estimate for the US-Canda game last week was 10.6 Million -roughly 1 out of 3 households in Canada had that game on...my feeling is it may have been higher.
We're not angry, just misunderstood.

There is a scene in Robert DeNiro's directorial debut A Bronx Tale where
the mobster asks the local boy about why he is rooting
for the Yankees..what did the Yankees ever do for you ?..if your Dad
can't pay the rent are the Yankees going to come help you out ?
Best scene in a good movie..actually..only thing I remember from it..
It's of kind of like living vicariously through others success or failures...
people root for teams..actors..movies..musicians..politicians..cor porations...etc.

Well let's hope US numbers are high. Bettman gave the American broadcast rights away for free in exchange for revenue sharing on the ads...unheard of for professional sports coverage.
And he's talking about not letting NHLers play in Sochi.
BTW see if you can get a CTV or TSN feed -one of the beiggest problems with NBC and Versus coverage is the fact the announcers sound bored out of their trees. At least the Canuck announcers have some inflection!

My girlfriend of seven years is Canadian and I go to BC every christmas so I feel like an honorary Canuck. Can't wait for the game tonight, gonna go over to the Maple Leaf pub down in Covent Garden. The most Canadian place in England...

The US players looked like someone shot their dogs...they did a lot better than anyone outside their dressing room thought they would.
It was not Canada's best game, but it was the one that mattered.
I wonder which of the millionaires is throwing down the plastic for dinner tonight...it will be an epic celebration!

I thought it was a great game to watch...even though I'm Canadian I though Crosby played like crap, he even screwed up a straight away, he was just lucky he was in the right place at the right time. I thought USA played good too though!

Actually it wasn't that Crosby played like crap -he didn't have any room all game to do anything because of the shadowing, but he could have been moving his feet like he did in OT. 4 on 4 helped. It opened up the ice.

Was visiting with friends today, so couldn't watch the entire game, but what I did see was great. I saw the goal that tied it, and then the overtime. Congrats to Canada and I think the US earned a lot of respect from everyone by playing a much better tournament than most thought they would. A lot of young guys on that squad, and they played very physical, they skated well, had great goaltending, and in the end lost to a team that was just more talented. Amazing they almost pulled it off anyway.
