Basic Kit / Best store for equipment and advise NYC

While waiting for Scarlet we are going to shoot a 45 min Dramedy in a couple of months with a 5DmarkII. I was thinking to get two lenses - Canon EF 50mm f1.2L and a Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS. Does that sound right? Also, what store do you recommend in NYC?

The 50mm f1.2 is quite pointless compared to the 50mm f1.4 - the speed gain is minimal(f1.4 is already fast) and unless you have a future-soldier-laser-eyed AC it'll be impossible to keep anything in focus at those apertures anyway with a photo lens focus throw.

Secondly would you not need anything wider than a 50? I'm not thinking tokina 11-16 wide, but it'd definitely be nice to have a 24/28/35mm for masters/when the 50 is just too tight. All three focal lenghts are covered by 2 lens in the Canon lineup - the uber-cheap 24 and 35mm are available as cheap f2.8 options and also as L glass at f1.4, while the 28mm has a cheap f2.8 option and a bit less cheap, but still cheap f1.8 usm option.

The Tokina 11-16mm is designed for APS-C sized sensor, not the full frame one on the 5D.

I hardly ever use my fiddyonetwo... prefer the 35 1.4... and 24 1.4

but if I had only one lens and shooting handheld... the 24-105... the IS and wide is essential when handheld.

IDK much about what lenses, but I would check out what Abel Cine Tech has. (http://www.abelcine.com) They have a great selection, and I'll be they'll order it if they don't have it. Their service is second to none.

Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM
Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM
Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS

Any recommendations / observations?

Mike, I suggest you come in to our office to see these lenses for yourself. We have knowledgeable sales staff and much of this gear on hand right in the showroom. Nothing better than putting it in your own hands.
