I have not heard any feedback on the EVF.

With so much discussion about how critical focus is in 4K it seems that most people have opted for the RED LCD or alternative.

Was the EVF available on with the first release?

The EVF has not been released as yet David no. I'm sure stuff will leak out soon.

I know the Red LCD was released. Was the Magic Focus featrure enabled and if so, Was helpful/good/mediocre?

The EVF was released... I handled one myself.

I do not think the magic foucs has been released BUT, you can press a button on the LCD and change it to a 1:2 or 1:1 pixel ratio. This effectively fills the frame (zooms it) to let you see very close up detail to focus.

If anyone can confirm this that would be great!

Brook,

Did you not get the EVF?

I did not get a camera... I have no reservation. Blair, Scott and several other early RED reservation holders were kind enough to let me shoot with their cameras on Friday and Saturday.

brook,

then you're an even better judge of the evf. you won't be trying to prove to yourself and others that you got the best deal. what were your general impressions on the evf? any evf features, focus or workflow issues surprise you?

i'm set on the lcd but am still debating the evf purchase.

thanks

I said I handled it... I didn't say it was working yet. :)

I've used the EVF in the past [at NAB], but that was so long ago that I don't want to post my impressions of an early prototype when the production models are out there.

not trying to hound you but it sounds like you're saying the evf has been released but in an non-working condition. can you clarify?

It's been said in a few other threads. I didn't say it first because it wasn't my place to say it.

The EVFs are out there [in small numbers], but they're just not enabled yet via software, AFAIK.

This explains it.
