I'm just wondeing why it seems most have deserted the EVF in favour of an onboard LCD. For someone who has worked as a professional operator for years this sounds like madness. In an age where colour viewfinders are getting very good why go onboard....these are great for assistants but the EVF is perfect for the ergonomics of operating. Can someone chime in about their Red evf experiences...I'd love some feedback.

I have no experience with the EVF yet... I have it on order, and as far as I know itīs been delievered to some of the first cameras.

So my response to your question: "What happened to the EVF" It is already out there....

This is where the confusion lies...some say it's available and some don't. I would imagine Jim would be shooting with oone if it was. When then will it hit the streets?

RED sold all of their stuff to customers so even Jim had to user another company's monitor for framing/focusing. I bet he was wishing he had an EVF out on that drag strip.

I haven't seen anyone comment on the EVF yet. Kinda curious myself as to whether the LCD will get the job done. I sorta think I'll end up with both... not sure yet.

I was really worried about the EVF as well as it was never mentioned by anyone in any list of what was shipping and I haven't seen any pics of it in use. Its all i've bought for now.

Trust me, the Red EVF is real, it's available. I was at the Red HQ on Friday and they had a few that shipped. It's just not many are available now.

I was on the fence about LCD or EVF until I previewed both at NAB and then instantly decided on the EVF. For me there are only two reasons for the LCD: as a second display for an AC or for action shots that prohibit keeping your eye on the viewfinder.

Have to say after having the privilege of being at a shoot on saturday with the guys from Fxguide. I would go with the EVF Having to deal with the LCD in the Sun for judging focus was interesting. Have to say though overall VERY impressed with the camera. The footage we got there holds up very well in DI.

Hey Jeff, What area did you work in for the shoot with fxguide? I really liked their write-up report..

The EVF shares simularities with the Accuscene viewfinder which was in development for 4 years and most popular on Panavision cameras.

The fine tuning and improvements RED are doing will be the cherry on top of what was the best electronic monocular viewfinder on the planet.
