iPhone 3D App

At the Apple online store a new iPhone App called IOD calc has been released. I have been using a beta version of this App for a while on 3D shoots and it is a wonderfully easy tool for your 3D parameters on set.

If your shooting 3D as a cinematographer you can't go past this and if you have a stereographer on set you can always check the 3D parameters with IOD calc for a second opinion ;-)

If your new to 3D it is a great device to see how changing one stereo parameter affects other settings and where you start to break your stereo image. It also has a plain English help guide.

Now if they can just do a "lighting the Scene App" I could spend more time at Craft services.

Anyone shooting RED 3D can afford to spend $50 on an iPhone app.

I don't see a need. The frame and image on my monitor guide all my 3D decisions. All you need is to look at your parallax on screen.....

Have you seen any portable 3D lcd's other than the Transvideos?

I see that Astro and Panasonic each have a 24 - 25" coming out... presumably 12v

I don't think the Miracube 24" is DC...

But "off the shelf" ready to buy, I believe only transvideo at the moment.

THe Si2k CCU touch screen shows you a multiplexed image so there is no need if your shooting with it..

Yup. There are MULTIPLE new offerings of multi-plexers, converters, and 3D monitors that will premiere at NAB.

Unless you are forced to purchase any 3D monitoring gear for work right now - you are NUTS not to wait until NAB.

A couple new field monitor options with dual HD-SDI in - for much less than the Astro are weeks away.

If you are using a fixed IO rig then you don't really need to calculate your IOD - because it is fixed!

but

you might like to find out how close you can put subjects in relation to the background and convergence distances - and as a function of the focal length.

This is technically driving IOD calc backwards as it was primarily designed for beamsplitter rigs with adjustable IOD but you can twiddle the distances until the IOD reads as much or more than your fixed IOD and then you know you are safe in terms of divergence limits - still a handy safety check so you don't make incoherent images and bend your audiences brains.

I have been using IOD and I found it good .

Also I have checked the calculated IO distances with various stereographers in different shoots and the calculated distances are very close to what they decided.
