Hi!
I remember reading on the forum a while ago that RED is making the cameras compatible with Arri accessories. Is it still true?
Can you use the base plate, the rods, the matte-box and the follow-focus from an Arri 35BL-4, for example? Or will you need a camera raiser to adjust the height?
Can someone privide the optical center height/distance etc?
Thanks.

All their rods, etc are based on Arri's 19mm standard.

The Arri 35BL system has 15mm rods. I guess you can use rods adapters.
BUT - what about the optical center height and positioning? Any hard numbers? These are essential for matteboxes etc

I was told by the someone @ red that they use a MB20 matte box (I believe that what is pictured on the main site), & it's matched fallow focus. (19 mm rods)
I priced its just under 10,000 for the complete set up. It is sweet, so sweet I'm jumping all over it.
PS There is a 15mm adapter for the larger rods.

The centering an lens height are all Arri standard for the 19mm system. I THINK ( cant remember exact) that that's 110mm center to center wide, and 65mm lens center in height. Google is your friend.

Are you sure about the 19mm for RED??? It was my understanding that RED is using a 15mm rod system?
Can a current camera holder or someone from RED confirm??

Your Matte box and follow focus should fit with 15mm adapters, red is it's own sliding base plate.

With introduction of SR III and 535 in early 90ties ARRI changed their support from 15mm to 19mm standard regarding heavier lenses. This should not be mixed up with 15 LEIGHTWEIGHT support;
And - yes RED is compatible to 19mm ARRI but not to OLD 15mm

What you guys think is the easiest way to adapt a 15mm system to RED?
I have RED on order, but won't be buying their base plate or rod system (apart from the top pieces, for monitors and such). I want to use the base plate, 15mm rods, follow focus and mattebox from my Arri 35BL, since I already have them.
I think the only thing in the way will be the optical center specs. In this case, the only thing I would need to add to the new system would be a camera raiser, between RED and my sliding plate, to "move" the optical center exactyly to the BL's position.
Any other potential problems I am not seeing?
Thanks,
Mike
