A. If you're a student working on a great project and don't have the budget, but would like to shoot on a red- in Los Angeles ( I don't travel for Student Gigs :).

B. If it's a charity, or some other event that's in need of a camera and crew.

If the scheduling works out I would love to help.

C. If your an Editor, VFX, Colorist, Post Sound, or anything I may have left out, and would like to exchange your services for #87 RedOne camera time. Please contact me.

Or if you simply want to play with the camera for an afternoon- if a few of you go for this option I would love to take out the camera, socialize and shoot around for a bit. I would love to meet the guys I always read about.

Hey Vladamir, I'm relatively new to town and would love to meet up with other red owners and enthusiasts in the LA area. Let me know when you pick a date.

That's the school I went to for a little bit. I'll try not to say anything bad, ahem, lol. ;)

Nice offer, though, very cool. I'd love to just see someone else's RED, you know, just take a look at it in person, not borrow it for a day or anything like that, just like 15 minutes seeing it in person basically and watching someone else turn it off and on ;)

Vladimir,

Wow, what a terrific and completely altruistic offer! Seriously, if everyone was this community-oriented, could you imagine the kinds of gains we might make as a civilization?

I'm a graduate of USC's Cinema-Television program and I've been directing music videos to develop further as a director, make connections and as a way to experiment with emerging technologies and approaches. In other words, in my opinion, music video is the most cost-effective gateway to the business. Not only am I able to experiment with projects and tools, but the likelihood those projects will be seen is high. The things I've learned on my shoots have been priceless, and I've grown a great deal because of it. My goal has always been to accumulate enough experience and technique that I would one day apply that knowledge to an indie feature...and that day is fast approaching.

With the advent of cameras like the RED One, there is no longer a technological barrier preventing any of us from competing with the big boys. Now the only things separating the indies from them are time, story and the ingenuity with which those stories are realized (interpretation is everything). As an indie artist, to a certain degree, time is not a factor and in the absence of vast sums of money, ingenuity must compensate. Most of the best filmmakers have always worked this way, so why shouldn't I. Why shouldn't we all aim for that? Tools like the RED allow indie filmmakers with a vision and great stories to capture them with the utmost professionalism. They don't make a filmmaker great, but they do allow a great one to shine.

I have a couple treatments for videos out, and I'd absolutely LOVE to shoot one of them with the RED One.

I'm really proud of the strides Jim has taken toward helping filmmakers, whether he did them in earnest or as a byproduct of his own desire to own such a camera. He is the epitome of the word "indie," and I sincerely feel your gesture to share your fortune with others elevates you to the same level.

btw, here's a link to some of my work - this is all stuff that was shot without the assistance of an "established" production company. I wrote, "established" because I funnel all the video work through my own startup, but that doesn't mean anything.

Each of these is like looking at a timeline for technological advancement. "Time Has Changed" - Super16
"Sunglasses" - DVCpro 50
"There It Goes" - DVCpro HD

It's kinda funny when you think about it that way. If I had the cash, I would buy a RED One without hesitation. And I don't believe in owning equipment.

Vladimir --

I'm an Editor and VFX artist, and would love to trade camera time for some such work.

I'd also love to do a socialize-and-shoot afternoon with other L.A. Redheads. You'll be getting #87 well before I get #1028. :bleh:
