Hello,

I was among the first to put down 10% for a RED camera that morning when orders were opened up again, at NAB. I got a RED ID number that is pretty high, yet I ordered withing the first half an hour. It took quite a while to receive the confirmation.

Does the number reflect the order in which I get the camera?

Thanks.

No....there's a thread on this already. BUT no answers and result is expect some time spring of 08.

if you ordered at nab2007 its a time stamp holding your place in line, not a
serial number. serials ended before NAB 2007 in favor of the time stamp

I know about serial numbers. I also know about the "time stamp".

What I'm saying, my time stamp number (which probably started from 0 on that morning) is pretty high (above #400) yet I ordered immediately after the orders were open. I can't imagine 400+ people ordered before me in 20-30 minutes, especially since the total number of cameras ordered in many days around NAB was only about 2,000. My concern is that my time stamp does not truthfully reflect the real time of my order, since there were problems with the store that day and I received the confirmation after more than a week (and many, many unanswered e-mails).

PS By the way, I also tried to order a RED during the second reservation wave, but I couldn't do it through PayPal.

one really can't figure out the time stamp ... just figure that you're around 2000 ...

RED has said that the order # or time stamp are based on an internal numbering system and provide no indication to the customer about their position in line or camera serial number.

We also don't know how many orders were placed at NAB or since, only guesses. And the number people physically placing orders at NAB is only a percentage of the total. Web orders were being taken at that time too and with the announcement of the prime lens set and other accessories at NAB, I'm sure there were a good number of online orders placed. There were probably people at NAB that found it convenient to order online even there rather than fight through the lines and crowd at the RED tent to do it.

It's been said over the past month or so that orders placed "now" should expect cameras in spring '08. ...But that leaves everything pretty wide open for speculation. "spring '08" could mean that the camera ships anywhere before June 21st.

thanks Regista!
I placed mine on the third of May, and I'd always figured I'd fall in the Feb 10th group. My guess is that by the time we get to Feb 2008 the ordering/delivery process will have dramatically changed. Still I vote that with cameras shipping and IBC orders soon to stream in, RED should very soon inform us all by email of where we sit in the que. It makes a big difference to my plans over winter, and I know I'm not alone. I've been very good and quiet, pacing my order online then letting them get on with the job of making the camera without bothering the team every ten minutes, but pretty soon I'm going to start behaving like a customer; and this is America.. right? :matrix:

We are doing the best we can. We understand that the nature of this program is different than anything most have experienced before. We have told people NOT to count on a specific date for delivery while trying to give guidelines. You are the customer and we are trying to make you happy. One thing that won't make youy happy is for us to force out product that isn't ready. If you are upset in any way about how well (or not) we are doing, you always have the option to ask for a full refund with interest. But we cannot speed things up because someone "has a project to shoot and we were counting on this". We have cautioned against this many times.

RED is a company that started development of this project 1 1/2 years ago from scratch. Try to keep that in mind when you feel frustrated. If your frustration overcomes you, we will gladly let you off the hook. We want all our customers to be happy. If we can't make you happy, we deserve to lose your business.

Hey Jim, I think the issue is that many of us do not know where we are in line. You all gave out dates for hopeful release dates, but since we don't even know where we are in line, it's a little confusing. As I've said in another post, it would be nice just to know what "range" we are in--aka: 2100-2200, 2200-2300, etc.

Thanks for your hard work and vision.

If I was building a new camera that shook up the industry, I wouldn't want my competitors knowing exactly how many I have sold at a given date. This is likely why the change in issuing serial numbers has come about.

Obviously this is purely speculation on my part, but i would cut them some slack right now. From previous statement on this forum it appears like those models w/o sn will ship in the spring to summer 08 time frame. BTW- I also have one coming in this batch.

The only reason to behave like a typical American (or Canadian) customer would be if Red was a typical American company. If Red was Best Buy, Jim would be playing on the computer, Jarred would be hitting on one of the cashier's, and Graham would be telling us we need to buy a fire wire and an extended warranty to make our sony hard drive camcorder work on our iMac.

Thankyou to Red for being so open, for letting us place orders (Sony wouldn't let us reserve something and then contribute idea's on how it's made) and for telling us what you can, even though we always want to know more.

And I guess, thanks for the whole affordable 4K camera thing, but you already know we like that part. :)

I ordered in April, and have just been given a tentative Jan-Feb 08 slot. I did hear December mentioned just a few weeks back (or was it months back, summer is zipping along).

Back in April, I thought a December shipping time was too long to wait - now it's September; I want my damn summer back!
