Not that we expect it to be as groundbreaking as last year, but I am sure there are some curious readers here.
I am leaving for IBC in less than 8 hours and am curious about how it was on the first day.

From those few that he was nice enough to give us it looks like we may be getting a 4 way battery charger... or did I misunderstand.

Haha... no, me neither, but I can see why he did because of those other "priceless photos"... But hey Eirik, I hope everyone has a great time at the Hard Rock and IBC... please keep poor Cretins like me informed between beers.... ;-)
Cheers Man,
Andrew

Hi all,
No those battery and charger pics aren't from Red. Red booth is quite small. I think they're putting most of their energy into the cameras being delivered. There are two protos on display outside the tent, and workflow demos with both Red Alert and Red Cine in the tent.
The presentation in the Digital theatre was nice, no new info for those used to this board, put Crossing the Line on the IBC big screen was nice. I'm glad I finally saw it in all it's 4k glory. Great screening conditions !
Their was a good crowd for the screeing, quite a starck contrast with the Panavision presentation which preceded it. Not only was there hardly anyone for the Panavision presentation but it was long and dull apart for the 3.5 minutes of images which, in all honesty, were nice, but don't compare to seeing a movie like CTL.
Looking forwards to meeting some of you tomorrow evening.
Cheers,
Damien

Hi Earthling,
Thank you very much for clearing that up, I thought I was getting it wrong on the fourway charger. Also thank you very much for your impressions and further breakdown it all makes sense.
Cheers and enjoy yourself this weekend... Andrew

hi all,
first post here. thought i'd chip in as well with a little report, as i also went to the screening and had a quick visit to the booth.
the booth is the same or similar as last year, not the aircraft hangar used at NAB. the presentation by ted followed by the crossing the line screening in the theater was nice but like the man said no new info that i caught or new footage. the mood of the red crew seemed understandably exited, must be an amazing week.
ted basically plotted the genesis of the camera and shortly presented configurations, lenses, technical specs and workflow, some stills of configurations by the new owners of the camera. it all was seasoned with some entertaining anecdotes about how peter jackson got involved and similar stuff. enjoyable, nice and good introduction especially to folks who haven't been following the development online.
for me it was the first time to see any 4K footage and was obviously amazed and intrigued by CTL. missed the 4K red presentation last year although i did see the unrelated 8K projection at that time. will be interesting to be able to compare for example with dalsa tomorrow. obviously no proper comparison but at least check the different feels.
the projection was done with the newer sony 4K projector and it looked stunning. the screen was huge (could have been 12 meter wide but i might be exaggerating probably was more like 7), bright and super sharp although i was sitting up front.
the auditorium has to my knowledge capacity of over 1700 people and although it was by no means full, there was quite a crowd. did not seem empty. and this was only some hours into the first day most people would still be trying to orient themselves in the convention. so i would expect it could become very busy tomorrow and sunday.
had a super quick peak into the apple booth as well. they are not announcing any new releases or such, but previewing the next update of fcp. it will ship with support for redcode raw and the missing panasonic avc format. also support for a some other cameras. will have to recheck the exact data of this tomorrow.
through the log and transfer window one can also choose to ingest natively redcode raw or encode to prores. the only little work flow annoyance at the moment, which was mentioned at one of the demos at the red booth, would be that encoding to prores is that it apparently is rather slow at the moment 5:1 (not sure on which machine it has been benchmarked on but would presume it would be the top notch macs), something which they are working on still.
the fcp release doesen't still have release dates nor version numbers.
and sorry no pix this time.

The screen is more like 18 meters (60 feet) wide.... Auditorium holds about 1100 people (not counting the balcony).

yeah, realised when i saw it the next day, that it was much bigger. more than the 1700 is including the balcony.
and the projector is a 20K ansilumen beast.
a little ot, but since i started the above about the fcp update they have also added support for xdcam ex, which (the sony cam) was also released now...
