Lately all footage generated through Redcine-X has banding-like noise patterns through much of the image. However, when generating the same R3D files through REDALERT the footage is clean and useable. I have provided an attachment that is crop from one of the clips. You can see what I am referring to in the blue parts of the sky. I am outputting the clips as QT 2K.

I would say those are not noise patterns but rather the result of 8-bit output. Is there anything in your transcode settings that may be doing this?

What CODEC are you going to and can you see any setting differences in Red Alert?

Hello Jim

I'm outputting in ProRes 422 HQ. There's an select option to "enable 444 Chroma Filtering" not sure what that is so I have not selected it.

Using these same clips in Red Alert! I get a nice clean image but I really need the FLUT science here I would like to take advantage of it for the first time.

The main difference between RA and RCX was that Quicktime settings were hardwired. Since everyone asked to have full control over the quicktime settings and codecs, we did that but that means it's also up to you to determine the best settings for the quicktime codecs.

In RA, chroma filtering was on by default.
