Hi,

I'm keying some Red footage for the first time and need a bit of help working out what kind of processing to do to it in Red Cine X.

The green screen is slightly under exposed(by that I mean not brighter than the foreground) - I spoke to the DP and he said that it was either expose the green correctly and lose the 3D tracking marks or underexpose it slightly and because of the lenses lose focus on the marks(which would make the matchmover very upset). The tracking marks are about 1 stop brighter green which was done to make my life easier(which the matchmover said would be ok for him)

So any tips on what I should do in Red Cine to get best results(first time using the program) - bearing in mind that it doesn't matter what the foreground looks likes because I can just use the matte with properly graded footage.

I should point out I don't have CS4 so can't use the Red plugin.

Thanks in advance.

Richard.

I have'nt worked with markers yet but i just keyed lot of footage for an edit. i would just do some flut adjustments and bring up your green to a level that seems suitable for keying. Also i used primatte for keying not sure if you have that but it worked great. My look for the footage was saved and exported out Apple pro rez.

why don't you try rendering out some 4k tiffs at different exposures and see what will key best in after effects. I found that exposing the green at 55 ire worked best and it sound like your greenscreen is around that level. Using redcolor in redcine-x should give you good saturation. Take a look at this thread for a tiff from a recent greenscreen shoot that I did:

Has anyone tried transcoding a green-matte-only pass from Red Cine X?

Seems like if you transcoded purely for the greenscreen, you could make a great matte and then transcode your skintone pass and run the matte over it.

Just ran a test yesterday. Used Conduit to key and the results were miraculous. Here's a short sample: http://www.atomicfilms.com/clients/key.mov Check out the chicks hair!
