Hey guys,

I think I remember Jim mentioning something about whether we'd be interested in having custom names engraved on our Red's. I noticed in the 'Hello Mr Nikon' thread that 'Deadwood' was engraved on the side. Obviously we can do this ourselves when we get our reservations, but it would be awesome to have Red do it in a sort of 'standardized' format of some sort.

This may be way too much of an ask for each camera as Red ramps up production, so would be totally understandable if it was an offer to the first 25 only (as I know the serial numbers on the side was for early numbers only). I'd be very happy to pay (obviously) though.

Thanks guys, keep up the great work. Footage is looking amazing :)
Seth.

Yah, Jim said he's working on it. It'll probably become an option for later cameras, and something that we'll always be able to do.....I think he just wants to continue releasing cameras to reservation holders first.

Hi Seth Larney,

I see that to engrave your name in the RED it can have some disadvantages:

1 - You increase the time of delivery of each unit. Perhaps the solution can be an optional plate, marked in CNC with your name.

2 - You lose value of sale (someday the today body of RED will be old for you… and necessary for initiates with her). I do not believe that it is good that the new buyer uses its camera with "your" name.

3 - It is my humble opinion (another disadvantage)

:innocent:

Cheers!

Hey Justin,

That's great news ! I knew I read it somewhere ..I've got a few months before my reservation is called, so there's time to see how it pans out.

Hey pixeltv,

Thanks for the advice :)

If it increased the waiting time by more than say ... a day or so, then I'd probably pass. But if they can weave some more Red magic and engrave it as part of the production process easily and efficiently, then that'd be another story.

I'm also not worried about the resell value, my camera's pay for themselves through my trade (I own and run a film production company), and I'd hope that most people that would be after a secondhand Red wouldn't mind the engraving so much as it wouldn't be my name that I'd be engraving, it'd be a word that means something to my company. On a cheekier note, it'd be kinda like putting a wedding ring on your wife's finger.. till death do you part, which pay not be such a bad thing ;)

Cheers,
Seth.

Seth,

The best thing will be than the RED boys continue making units, without stopping the line for engrave the names, that they are already delayed in the standard orders.

Peace!

I think any delays that happen are because of suppliers, not because the RED boys aren't making 'em fast enough.
