Thanks guys. I shouted Damnit because I just ordered one via ebay. Not too bad of a deal. $300. Free shipping. Comes with a 16GB card, some cheapo headphones and the Zoom $35 remote controller.

Hi Rick, I am new to film making, please let me know if this is the best audio recording device for indie film making and is there anything else to have as the bare minimum package.

Hey James. Welcome to filmmaking! "Best" is subjective but from the reviews I've read, this is the best BANG for your buck when it comes to a portable CF recorder with XLR inputs. I think it's a perfect companion for the Canon VDSLR lineup right now and also wouldn't be too shabby for foley work as well. My best advice would be to see if you could borrow one and give it a try. Also, pickup a good mic. The RODE mics are nice as are the Sennheiser. Good luck
