View Full Version : Macbeth... final test shot.

This is the setup we use to do the final image inspection. We shoot a lens cap on, full white, then this setup at ISO 320 and ISO 1000. This is a 2K jpeg scaled from the original 4K capture of an ISO 320. Camera number 32.
Since resolution isn't really part of this test, not all are focused the same. It is really a test to make sure there is nothing wrong with the DSP through the image chain. Back-focus is checked prior to this test.

That's the first Macbeth image from the Mysterium that the black actually looks REALLY black. A good thing of course.

Jim,
Good image!
We know in Spain that Dinamicam (www.dinamicam.com) has invited to RED to expose without cost (freebie) in Broadcast 2007 (Madrid, November 6-9).
The email has been sent to Ted Schilowitz: ID [RED #3077], and they are waiting for an answer.
You will accept the invitation of them…?
It is very interesting the idea to have a RED in exposition in Spain. Here the RED it has much acceptance.

Since Ovide (an HD rental house) has very low number reservations (around the 100's), and a huge stand (as in every broadcast show), they probably will show their own red cameras on Broadcast show in madrid :)

If, polispol but it is not the same.
How many rent companies it has in Europe... and RED it is in IBC (paying) in its own stand.
It is not the same.
Peace!

Also, Service vision (with presence in the show also) will have their own cameras too... so even without red coming to spain, we will have at least 4/5 cameras at the broadcast show ;)

polispol,
Me encanta bcn.
Deu!

I see your signature...
You already bought your RED?
What configuration you know is the basic to begin with a RED?
You have visited the new RED store...?

Actually, I've ordered two. The first one I will outfit with the RED 18-50 zoom and will purchase a battery charger to run off AC current when available, or a dc marine battery with a converter attached. I will always have this camera set stationary and will have a 23" Phillips HDTV hooked up as a monitor. Had thought I would go RAID for storage, but now think I will use only CF cards since they will be at least 16 GBs by the time I take delivery of my first camera. This much I will be able to pay for or already oun.
The second camera will be more mobile and how it will be outfitted will be determined by a banker, whom I will approach with the offer of putting up the first camera as collateral to purchase the second camera and accompanying equipment, also offered as collateral.

This probably sounds impossible...although I know the RED team doesn't like that word, but when I get my #813, could you send me some sort of frame grab or what not when you do the final test....It's sort of a birthing of the camera so to speak and I want to see it!

Back-focus is checked prior to this test.
Speaking of back focus how is this handled on Redone? How is it adjusted?
thanks

If you buy the CF option and a card they probably need to test record something anyhow. They could just leave the test shots on there.
Thinking about it, that would be a great way for Jarred or another tester to send a personal thank you every buyer. Get the audio working. Build goodwill and make friends cheap...

Well technically the term "back focus" is used with zoom lenses to describe the adjustment done at the shortest focale length as opposed to "front focus" which is the adjustment done at the longest focale length.
With single focale length lenses (primes) it's just refered to as setting the infinity focus of the lens to match the flange focale depth of the camera.

A forward/aft adjustable imager was a feature on some industrial ccd cameras.
Being able to tweake backfocus while watching a monitor is an advantage.
I suspect that monitoring accurate backfoucus on wide shots @ 4k will be as much an issue as it is on 2/3 inch.

That would be adjusting the flange focale depth of the camera. Not the same thing as an adjustable back focus like what is found on some video lenses.

Years ago I bought a second-hand Arri S that was so new it still had the strip of registration footage that was shot with it at the factory still in the box... so what you're requesting makes sense with the RED as well...
Heck, how about a complete video instruction guide on the CF or REDDRIVE that ships with your camera... plug your RED into a monitor and watch a whole presentation...

Polispol. RED is now worldwide! Si quiere hablar en espanol....dejelo. In otherwords if he wants to speak spanish let him...it's probably not aimed at you anyway. In fact isn't that the 2nd language in the US or fastest growing ?
....by the way, none of this is meant as a punch---only grit reality.

Isn't that the point? He can be on the left or right...but he can choose whichever fits the days agenda....He'll always be on the right even if it looks like the left no? Politicians.....can do that can't they? :bleh:
edit: he's on the left when we see him through the lens, but he's then really on the right he'd contend....at least from his perspective.

I would assume that the front standard of the camera (that's the piece the different lens mounts attach to) is set up at the factory to a given depth. And then the different lens mounts themselves are tuned to that spec. As I say I assume this and you all know what that means. lol
