Was a bit surprised to say the least!

I was at Abel cine prepping everything for a upcoming 3D project in the amazon forest. I will be 3D steadicam operator on the shoot and had our rig all built out and he heard about it and wanted to stop by with his friend Jerry to check it out. (It's a lightweight prototype beamsplitter using Si2k cameras.)

It was a pleasure to meet the man who invented the steadicam and the man who literally wrote the book on it. We talked 3D, showed them my 3D steadicam pics that I have flying multiple 3D rigs and answered more 3D questions etc....then left soon after but it was great to be in the presence of such talent.

I failed to take a pic, but I think maybe someone took one....I hope.

To say it was a cool day would be an understatement.......I got the impression that Garret might have something up his sleeve.....but my lips are sealed.

Although it is technically a prototype, its now over two years old and the few we made have been used consistently since then. Its a rig we created specifically for Dark Country which Geoff Boyle was the DP.

This prototype rig is not representative of what we are now doing with our Quasar/Pulsar/Neutron line but we still make it available. There are certain limitations that its younger brother doesn't share. The Dark Country rig can only use S1-2K minis with c-mount primes. There is motorized IO using a single Preston motor and convergence is not motorized.

From what I've heard that Amazon shoot should be a blast.

I took the Steadicam course with Garret and Jerry years ago, and I must say that Garret is a true Gent and fascinating figure.

Watch out for Garret at NAB. He roams the floor with his invention :)

Obrigado,

We just got back, it was a success! Tough conditions as expected, many challenges......but we got some amazing 3D footage I don't think anyone has ever acquired in 3D....

The crew was amazing, and we pulled together and we all feeling very proud of the images we captured.

Big thanks to ET for the rig, Abel for all the support and gear, SI for the cameras of course and we all can't wait to use the new/improved rig!

(BTW-I knew it was not representative of the upcoming newer versions which is why I didn't want to show any pics or mention names. Unless of course you don't mind ;)
