What timecode is available when you use RedcineX?

I am also trying to figure out how to activate timecode instead of edgecode in the viewer window.

I mostly shoot so I apologize for basic workflow question. Is there a program that automates the process of taking a sequence in final cut and exporting timecodes for each clip to Redcine X so I can process and then relink the files back in final cut?

I just downloaded the latest RedcineX and see the timecode function. Thanks!

just no audio yet, oh so close to just being able to layoff tapes for some clients who just want HDCAM or HDCAM SR masters of their footage. So far for me, I've been able to layoff straight from RedCine-X to tape with embedded timecode. Just no audio yet.

cheers

Well the reason I asked is that I see what the manual calls "timeline time code"
but no sign of camera generated timecode... edgecode or otherwise. Do you have to do something to see camera edgecode in RecineX?

Rendering currently uses whatever timecode was set as primary in camera.

If you just want to see the timecode, use the drop-downs (that initially say "CF") on the viewer window.

Hi Nick. Can't seem to see those CF dropdowns you spoke about.

What I am trying to do is isolate clips in several long interviews that have been prescreened by the Producer who has given me a list of camera time code in and out points. This saves us from having to transcode a 35 minute interview just to get a 30 second clip. But the timecode I see in the lower right hand part of the video window bears no resemblance to the camera edgecode written on my script.

Just seems to be a readout from REDCINEx's own timeline which is useless to me. Is there any way to see the camera edgecode when playing back in order to mark the in's and out's of the clip to be exported?

Sam, have you upgraded to the latest build of RedcineX? You wont see that option on the older builds.

Hi Dan...well I don't see those drop boxes so I guess not. But I'm using build 104 and that seems to be the latest one on the Red support site.

Oh, it's the bleeeeding edge version. Thanks Colin. I downloaded it and sure enough there are the T/C drop downs. It's a little buggy, runs much slower than 104 and has crashed a few times but I'm sure this is all temporary. I'll keep an eye on that thread for updates.

Yeah a bit buggy and slower, but I like where it's going. I was not a big fan of RedCine-X initially, but as it's being worked on and developed further, I'm warming up to it.

Like I said in a previous post, being able to hook the HD-SDI from the RedRocket card directly to my HDCAM deck with timecode flowing through is wonderful. We have many clients that love the look of Red, but still want to maintain their current tape based workflow. Which is fine, not everybody digs the data centric workflow, and like to have something like tape to put on the shelf.

Now if we could get audio to flow through as well, that would be kick-ass.
