I was shooting with an MX camera today with build 30.4.1 and I noticed that when enabling false color in video mode, I can not get extreme over-exposure (red) or extreme under (purple) to show up. I can get red to show up if I switch to exposure view, but, even when putting the lens cap on, I can't get purple to show up. I couldn't find an answer on the forums yet, anyone else having an issue with this? The manual has all the colors listed for the video overlay so I'd assume that they'd be enabled on that overlay. I have operators and dps who would like all the false colors on one overlay like it used to be, anyone else feel the same way?

To get red and purple in Video check mode you would need to have super white or super black respectively.

Essentially FLUT color science prevents that from happening in the RGB domain which is what is measure in Video check, so you are using the wrong tool here if you are trying to use that to judge exposure in the highlights and shadows.

Ok. So would I just treat straw as maximum exposure and blue as minimum exposure? It's just that coming from build 21, you can, say, place your skintones to pink, and at the same time see if that blows out your highlights, instead of now toggling between two overlays. It just a little confusing for some that if it goes past 96-98 IRE it just goes back to grey scale, no blaring red to scream over exposed.

Or do you need to switch to "Exposure" mode and evaluate the clip that way?
It seems that there is a big difference in the metering depending on the mode of false color you choose, and "Video" may not be the best mode with which to evaluate clipping.
Cheers,

Precisely, use EXPOSURE to judge exposure, and VIDEO to judge video levels being output by the camera (if the latter is important to you)
