Open .R3D file in RED ALERT!
Set WB
Make Quicktimes.
Open 2K Quicktime in QT Player (it will look a bit dark... an Apple thing)
Don't change anything and Export as an H.264 .mov (almost highest quality setting).
It will open and look normal and play realtime on most machines.

Will this same trick work with other compressors successfully, or is it an H.264-specific way to dodge the gamma bullet?

Will this only work with the "Make quicktimes" or will it work with the "Make 2k Quicktime" too?
Also should I be able to open the reference file in FCS2? I currently get an "general error" and then an "Out of memory" error.
Thanks.

It works with "Make 2K Quicktime". These are not graded images, but will let you get a pretty quick look in 2K as to what you have.... realtime and without FCP2.

Cool trick!
Now if we could just get some love for the Adobe users and and avoid these "apple things". :-)

I'm not sure if I understand how this works. Maybe you can try it with some of your race footage and post it to show us an example? :whistling:

H.264 takes a while, I've been messing around with making ProRes files instead. Bigger but faster.
