Wanted to buy a RED camera. Why rent your camera when you can make a substantial profit on its sale and still get what you would have earned in rentals over the next 6-12 months, by which time RED cameras won't be rarer? Let's do a deal whilst you have market forces in your favor. Immediate cash buyer. Will travel anywhere in the world to personally do the deal. Please - not interested in reservations. You must have a camera now. Genuine buyer.

I think he wants to buy one of the cameras that have shipped, not a reservation.

If I would have been smart or a gambler, I would have bought the first 50 and then sold them. But then again my 401k is in the negative.
I will take the safe route let everyone else try it first and them buy

what if expected earnings are around $35k to $50k in the next few months?

I don't think you're likely to get a buyer in the first few hundred shipments, but by the time Red's 200-600 ship you could probably get one. I'm kicking myself that I didn't reserve 3, one to sell and two to keep!

Hey Shawn, not to change the subject but I assume you got your RED. How about some footage!!

No, it's supposed to ship to me tomorrow'ish (fingers crossed). See the thread 26-50 for more commentary. I should have it by Wednesday, maybe next weekend I can post.
Do you think I'd be posting here if I had my Red? :-)

I'm being asked how much I would pay for a RED for immediate delivery. For a fully optioned camera, I'll pay twice your purchase price. If you're a hire company that's 12 months rental. In that time you could have bought another one and had it delivered.
Andy Fordham

twice your purchase price ? wow, i wish !
Now thats put a value on someones first camera ! any takers ?

I'll sell you mine for the price of an f23. haha
Rick Darge
09-09-2007, 07:18 PM
How much is an f23?
Tonaci Tran
09-09-2007, 07:34 PM
Estimates are 180,000-200,000.
For that much, I would put in for another order..make that two reds hehe and wait until 08 delivery.
I'm being half sarcastic as there is sooo much I want to shoot with this camera that it is sorta priceless.

09-09-2007, 08:14 PM
I hear ya Tonaci. My girlfriend keeps asking, "What's your price?"
Nothing! This camera will be buried with me! It's a historical heirloom in my book. The first incarnations of the Red-empire.
Jesus though, 180-200!!! For a 1080P camera!! Burn Sony Burn!

09-10-2007, 08:22 AM
Why would anyone pay $180k - $200k for a camera now?
This seems like an absurd price as one could hire (rent) a RED and at the same time place an order and end up having the continuous use of a camera for a fraction of the cost of a F23.
The only thing that might make any sense would be if someone were going to do a bit of destructive reverse engineering, but even then, they would just hire and then claim the camera destroyed and pay off the claim.
Michael Schrengohst
09-10-2007, 08:47 AM
Yes, why? Well some in the industry are still poo-poo ing
RED and trying to convince the elite crowd that the RED
workflow is just not worked our yet. That is so funny!
The RED has been out 10 days. I saw a thread where
a rental house said they could do a full 2 week rental
of an F23 for only $14,000... i think that was everything
including the HDCAM SR deck you need to record to.
I would love to see a test shot side by side
of RED vs. F23 and a workflow to get down to the
same product.

Totally. I keep kicking myself for not having placed an order immediately, and then a second order at the close of NAB. Sell the first, and the second camera would be free! :angry02:

Too bad, I'm in the 300's. I could sell mine and buy another, which would be ready for me on my next feature.
Damn, bad luck....never got more than three numbers on a lottery ticket either. :)

Without a doubt...:construction: Though there are a few people I will keep up with from here.
So far, the "pay double" would not happen here if I had a high number ( I have pre-sells in the air for much more than that, it will be very interesting to find out how all will shake out for real). Though if I had two... different story. How else am I gonna get one of these Arri Ultra Prime T2.8/8R lenses?

But I feel if just a couple more things go my way I will have one hell of a EFP/Docco Shooter's package (canon s16 zoom, skater mini...) in the next six months to a year--- with a great cine package right out of the gate. I am really glad where i fell in the que.
Congrats again Mark on your new job, I look forward to seeing your work, very cool...
