Just wanted to post on what a huge quality and speed difference we have found with regards to getting Red media as ProRes into FCP by these various methods. Both Red programs have a noticeable increase in image quality when you compare the images to ones that has been ingesting into FCP by log and transfer. This is comparing REDCINEX and ROcketcineX ProRes 422 LT to FCP Log and Transfer ProRes 422 LT. Also a huge difference in speed. 4 or 5 times faster with REdcine X than FCP L&T. We notice perhaps slightly faster in RocketcineX than RedcineX but we haven't timed same files yet.
We are working on long-form nature documentary so will be working in FCP with 100-200 hours of material during the edit. We need to keep or offline edit files small as we have so much material to store on the drive but we still want to have nice images to look at and Prores 422 LT seems to fit the bill for us.
Wondering if anyone else out there has found similar results?
As this is our first RED edit, is this fairly standard and routine way to get media into FCP?
We have noticed that RedcineX crashes a lot during exports.
We are running RCX 104 and RocketCX 1740.
